there was a similiar problem with preston/bartech ff units. Regulated outputs can cutoff at .5A (not 1.5A). I guess D-tap is partly way to go or make some power distribution box.
DaveThe power outputs on the back of the camera are unregulated [11.5-17v] at 1.5A. Depending on your luck and your camera, many will cut at 1A and some will cut at up to 2A. I've been able to successfully power an MDR or a Microforce on some cameras... and others have cut out with approximately .5A [!!!] draw.
Now a lot of the less consistent experience is from the earlier days of the cameras... but they still aren't spot-on consistent these days.
James, I can see your idea working perfectly and I can see it failing miserably... all based on luck.
Another thought is to make a small inline box that pulls unregulated power out of the power cable before it goes into the back of the RED. Throw a few 3-pin power outputs in there and you'll be in business.
