  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VFS Inclino, Imperio, Origo News ??

The VFS motors only need power from the camera. You shouldn't have to do anything but plug it in.

Tony, did you do this step: To begin addressing motors press and hold the SET ADDR button on Impero until you hear a beep.
 
I tried a wide range of combinations - even switching cables. The motor is completely dead. The power LED doesn't even come on when I plug the motor in. When the motor is plugged in then I can't sync the Impero with the receiver and the blue, blinking LED on the receiver stops blinking. When I pull out the motor from the bus port then it starts blinking again. The SET ADDR button has no effect whatsoever - whether the motor is connected or not. I'm afraid it's DOA! :-(
 
There's no difference between the two ports as far as I know, but I've tried both ports.

There actually is. The bottom port defaults as time lapse, and unless you set it up properly you will experience problems.
 
I know I can program them to do different things, but I haven't noticed any differences in terms of powering third party products.

Us too. We are supposedly number 3 and we haven't heard anything. I emailed them, and no response. According to that update email that was sent out not too long ago, the first 30 would be shipped regardless of what we decided to do [Option 1 or Option 2]. Which I thought would have been us. But looks like that's not the case. I was looking forward to getting it soon. I wish they would follow through on their promises or at least honor the order in which people placed their orders. It has now been over a year since we placed [as with most everyone else] and it is starting to get old.
 
Well, I just got home from a 11 trip from hell that's supposed to only take 9 hours and opened up my fedex box from viewfactor....all is good except that I have no focus gear (you know, the part that meshes with the lens...kinda important...) and no marking disk for the follow focus. Good thing my shoot on Monday got pushed back until Wednesday.

Guess what....I just plugged in my set and am having the exact same issue. So now along with not having focus gears or a marking disk, I also have a non working motor.

As long as the motor is not plugged in, the receiver and transmitter work fine. In fact, if I press the record button, the camera will start recording, so I know that the receiver is working fine with the RED. Something about the bus cable or the motor is not working and I can not figure out what it is. Could it be a set of bad cables? I am going ahead and emailing them tonight, because after spending $60+ on shipping, I want a working follow focus dangit.

Ok, so I had a similar problem; I gave Curt a call and it sounds like the motor's firmware is allowing it to draw too much power and is causing the camera to shut power off to the motor/receiver. He mentioned that the Red's available power from those ports can vary greatly from camera to camera, and that he will make a firmware patch that can be applied to the motor, but it will take a few days (the motors tested fine on his camera). I also have the DTAP cable and was able to get the motor working with it. Unfortunately, my camera is set up to use 15mm rails only and the motors weren't supplied with the sleeves, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to test it with a lens. I'm too tired to reconfigure my camera to use 19mm rails...

Of course you'll think it's easy for me to say, but I hope that everyone can give ViewFactor a bit of a break; They're killing themselves to ship these out - possibly before they're fully ready for prime time (I think they were fearing a lynch mob coming after them if they didn't finally ship something).

Even though mine's not fully operational, after my very brief conversation with Curt I have every confidence that he won't stop until the Inclino/Impero does everything we could have hoped for and that he knows exactly what he needs to do to get them there... all for a song (comparably).

Mine "works", just not when powered through the camera. Am I disappointed? Yes. Do I think Viewfactor will make it right in a reasonably short period of time? Certainly. Do I think Viewfactor rushed these out the door? Yes, but read the thread... I paid for mine in full back in March of '08, and was hoping/planning on having it a few months later... i can wait a while longer. I waited longer than this for my RED... just sayin -

UPS often reschedules shipments, typically due to weather...
