  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm actually impressed this is actually happening so fast (absolutely no sarcasm).

When designing something like this, so quickly, there's no choice but to go by manufacturer's spec sheets. I'm personally in awe of Viewfactor. If I had the funds, I'd have been in line from the beginning!

Thanks Curt,

Keeping us updated like this makes life taste a whole lot better.

Nice to hear Curt...couple more months,
and hopefully your nightmare will be over.

Everyone appreciates your detailed reports,
keep it up,
Dave

Keep the good work up Curt!! I wish you didn't have to go to all this trouble to deliver excellent products, but Im sure glad your guys doing it! Bluetooth will intefere with another device Im using, but thats something I can work around.

Thanks for the update, Curt!

Using bluetooth it should be possible to release an API for operating systems, right?
So third parties could create control interfaces for laptops and even iPhones. This could be great for lens databases and the like.

Me likes your change to bluetooth!

It appears my worst nightmare is coming to pass. . . I had hoped to have the View Factor gear for primary photography on our film last year. Now it is looking like it won't be here in time for our last week of shooting this summer.

:-(

yup :)

Yes, we are 100% bluetooth now. The latency is around 8-9ms at the moment... much better than the 15-20 we were getting on the zigbee. The bluetooth 1.5 modules we are have as samples are capable of about 100 feet. They only draw 25mA and I have confirmed that. The new modules we will receive on Feb. 18th are class 2... they have a published range of 100 meters (394 feet)... of course it will probably be around 300-350 feet of reliable operation. I'll post a video tomorrow and get some real numbers.

Wow, that all sounds really good, especially for Bluetooth! Thanks for the detailed updates, Curt!

My extra pennies:

I really appreciate this last delay...!!

Many other companies would have released the product (cause it does work 99% of the time) and hid behind the low price when people are dissatisfied.

Then they could have sold us what we really wanted latter with new receivers and controllers..

Instead VF is pushing to produce a no-cost-excuse product!!!

brilliant!!

Curt,

Doesn't the Birger do Bluetooth? Does this make it easier for you to talk directly to the mount?

Good luck, and for support--I won't watch the Super Bowl either!

Thom
Yes... thats eactly why we went that route.. the only difference is that our modules have a greater range than erik's radio has... I think his is 30 meters, ours is around 100 as Darren mentioned above. I've been working with Erik to make an elegant solution and the easiest way for now is to hook one of his cables to the impero and get the unit synced to the Birger... at some point in the near future I think we can probably make it so that wont be required.

Great Range

I'm cranking still cranking through the recode for bluetooth... Got the beeper working too so now you'll have a audible notification when the tally from the camera goes high or low. Its looking very good though... nice to not be bandwith limited.

Quick update.... I have the radios up and running, now I'm just cleaning up the pairing routines. I was able to talk to the birger mount and it looks like that working well on the wireless. I should have another update tomorrow.

Great...
