  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Phil, thanks for this, and with Jarred's FB post about DNX HR, it makes me very happy. Can you explain how one would ingest and then relink to the r3ds? Last thing I want to do is manually have to do this in Avid or Davinci.

I have hit the upgrade-button for Weapon MG on Tuesday. Yes. I was doing it because of the great deal. I have read all details and new pricing. Now RED has changed it...
The Trade-In-Value for a Epic-X-Dragon dropped from to -€14,355 to €12,270

I really don't understand. RED changed thtat pricing AFTER I have bought.
And the Bonus, which Jarred has promised to all people, who have upgraded from Epic-X to Epic-Dragon before NAB, is gone.

Hi Norbert. I noticed this too, but I'm pretty sure it's a mistake on the FAQ page. It still says the following on the store page:

EPIC-X DRAGON and was paid for before April 13, 2015, the credit is $15,500 (€14355 / £10335). If on or after April 13, then $13,000 (€12040 / £8670).

In the FAQ, it now says you need to have ordered the weapon upgrade before April 13 in order to get the 14355 trade-in credit. I'm pretty sure this is impossible because I believe they only announced the Mg Weapon on April 13th.

I'm sure it will all be sorted out in the morning (PST).

No wonder some people are confused when there seems to be some mis-information on RED.com. What you should be looking at is under the "Before April 13, 2015" headline. That should be your correct discount (if your Dragon upgrade happened before then). All the numbers are correct, just the text that might be confusing. I believe it say weapon upgrades but should say dragon upgrades? Since I don't know of any weapon upgrades that was available before April 13. I might be wrong though, so please correct me if I am. :)

I don't know the time difference to Australia but if you ordered on Tuesday local time you should still have the accessories discount. :)

The April 13th date is all about your DRAGON's birthday. If you purchased or upgraded the DRAGON before April 13th, you get the larger credit. If you did so afterward, you get the smaller credit.
 
Michael, in the brand new FAQ page there is no mention about DRAGON´s birthday. It´s only about when you did order the Weapon upgrade...

Exactly. I believe for commercial directors to be able to get a prores version of the footage right away to look at (and not have to wait for time in a editing bay) to pick out their favorites for instance is a huge deal. Instead of proxies,

On some multiple pass motion control shoots I have used the R3D's on a laptop to check alignment and if the shoot will work. It can be done, but takes time and is difficult to work with. 2k prores files would be so much easier to work with. Just to check that your setup will work you can drop them into Premier and get playback right away. I think for VFX and commercials it's a very important addition to the toolset and workflow. :)
 
No. It says if your Dragon was paid for before April 13th then you get the higher trade in value against the Weapon. The higher trade in value was a 'thank you' to early Dragon adopters. It has nothing to do with when you order the Weapon.

Chart revision still does not look right - reflects the new Weapon order but not the date you were invoiced for the Dragon upgrade.
That has a $2500 impact.
In other words, it looks like there needs to be one more Mg chart...

Interesting. According to the chart, the pre-NAB dragon upgrade incentive has disappeared. :sad:

OK. Now I am getting confused. There were two trade in values. If your camera had been upgraded to Dragon prior to 4/13/15 and it was say an Epic M Dragon - it would have 17.5k trade value against a Weapon. If you waited until exactly 4/13 or beyond to upgrade to Dragon - then that camera would get 15K trade in against a Weapon. That went live from day one. No 2500 has disappeared. 4/13/15 was the timeline in the sand that they drew between get max trade in value or less. Am I missing something here....
