  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Update......

As far as upgrade to 8k. It was my understanding that the people who paid deposits first would get them in the order of Carbon, M etc. There was no forged that first night. It came much later and though I can understand it in a way, in another I can't as we who ordered at Nabet thought we were buying into the top camera that was going out in the summer. Then we were told to wait because people who were willing to pay for forged could jump up in line. Okay, but it was also stated around then that the 8k upgrade was going in the order and time stamp that you actually put a deposit down for 8k upgrade. And since it is going to be a long process, I hope that this is the way it is going to be. People who paid for forged paid for forged carbon, nothing has changed about 8k sensor. Still the same sensor, should go out in the order of when you deposited your 10K. Humbly yours, don't want a beating just want to shoot 8k.

OK, this made me laugh. Let's be clear, we have not publicly announced the official allocation priority tiers for 8K. Well, I am 99% sure, as I was running on fumes at NAB...

I was breathing those fumes and frankly it got me real excited. It was like the most seductive perfume-to have the ultimate visual tool- you do understand that it was a hell of a come on and a lot of us bit hard. I know that if you had a magic wand we would all be getting 8k yesterday. Just chomping at the bit as it were- want to ride that pony.
 
Wow thanks for the update you guys. Looks like Raven preorder is going to beat my mini 4.6k preorder. Will Germany have the same release date for the Raven or will it be behind?

Ok, while we never announced 100%, we got close. Thanks to Jarred telling me he is pretty sure he did mention priority and to Casey in our BOMB SQUAD who created a doc that has EVERY SINGLE post Jarred and I have done since NAB 2015 in it (God bless her), I did a quick search. And viola...

Jarred: "Forged orders take priority for the 8K sensor after 8K ordering opens up again once the initial first batch of 8K orders has been notified."

What this means, the NAB special $10,000 preorders for 8K will all be allocated by time/date stamp. That is only criteria.

However, once we re-open up reservations for the 8K upgrade, forged will get priority over woven. And that price will have gone up, as we have stated it would many times already.

Thanks for sticking to that. I remembered that post, in paraphrase terms and had confirmed same, when I switched from Woven to Forged to Woven...and that was the singular reason for the last switch, so to say.

Ok, folks, I have to go grill for my mother in law's birthday and watch the USC game. You will excuse my absence for a few hours... Hopefully, everything should be pretty clear on a few fronts after today. Like Jarred said, once we have final numbers on WEAPON Mg upgrade pricing, we will announce on here and RED.com...

CF 8k is pricy but possible given the multitude of financing options available but I would be lying if I said I wasn't betting the farm between my red and Arris this time around lol

Magnesium is stupidly cheap to cast but incredibly expensive to machine and it’s just not getting any cheaper or easier even with the increased volumes or the more that time goes by. I thought I would give you all a vote.

What alloy and machining process are you guys using? I always have found and heard that the machining qualities of Magnesium alloys is the best of any common metal, and in many applications, the savings in machining costs more than compensate for the increased cost of the material over straight Aluminum. As long as you irrigate the machining process (to prevent overheating) it should be easier to work with than Aluminum since the chips break off (rather than coil up into nasty springs like Aluminum does) and you can thread it without it being gummy (which breaks taps). Kind of like machining Brass but even easier.

"We can shave a few grand (3k-5k)" ALL Day bro. Make the weapon $5k cheaper and it's feeling perfect with the differences from forged and woven. Woven on order, maybe i'll pickup a magnesium too.
