  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I have to features I would like to request to be worked into the firmware if possible.

First one is, being able to view GB's left on mag and GB's used on mag as one of the media capacity/left for the main screen. We currently have time remaining and percentage remaining as options, but being able to see how many GB's I've shot and how many are left would be very useful to me.

Second is, set custom voltage level alerts for power. Would be nice if we could set the camera to start flashing the voltage at say, 13v, or 12.5 volts. It would be also great if we could have the option to flash and chose what color. I really get into shooting sometimes and don't notice that my battery is under 13v and rapidly heading toward no voltage! This is important now that I don't have a side handle with a redbrick in it for the power to swap over.

Anyone else think those would be usable features?

I come to this world from a software background, and I, too, thought I wanted GB available, because that's what I'm used to seeing when I do "df -h" or "du -sh" on disks. However, I have learned that different formats, different frame rates, different REDCODEs, all conspire to make the GB a very relative quantity. Knowing time remaining and percentage are much, much more useful for determining whether its time to swap cards or not. Moreover, thinking in terms of GB can lead one to thinking too much about the next steps in the process--the job of the DIT. Like a wide receiving who starts running for the end zone before they've really caught the ball, thinking about your offload process before you have the footage in the card can also lead to suboptimal decisions and results.

not yet in the camera overlay options but at least the camera already has this GB remaining info available :-)

I think the 2nd option would be fantastic for DSMC as well. I have the same problem. I get caught up working and lose track of the battery voltage. A flashing red anything when the voltage gets too a low level would be fantastic. Yes, please. A visual heads up would be a great, maybe even a variable setting.

Not all jobs have a DIT. For example, the job I did monday was tiny-Me, the director, and a gaffer. So I was the DIT also and got a little behind after filling half the first card and remembering that half a 512 card is a crap load more than half a 64 card that I am used to. I know how long it takes to download certain GB amounts, so it's far more useful to me to see how many GB's I've shot.

actually it is mot very far to reach if you have a touch screen :
- tap on media info at bottom left.
- tap 'more info..."

and you have media capacity and available space in GiB displayed.

Would be extremely excited for a voltage alert, as long as it pops up after a take is finished.

Really should just start attempting to train my eye to check up on it more often. So silly how something can be right in front of you and still miss it.

It would be great if you could set what voltage the camera should stop recording and power down.
I use LiPo batteries and this feature would be super useful on drones and gimbals were you don't always have constant check on the voltage and you can have the camera stop recording and power down instead of just turning off and loosing the last shot you were recording.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the safety gap with the automatic shutdown on DSMC2 bodies allows for the camera to cut and then shutdown the camera.

That only works with batteries that can communicate with the camera. Batteries that are just straight voltage can't do that. I second Rory's request because that would be super helpful.
