Hi all,

Today we're announcing availability of the new Trost M-series camera slider. You can find full details (and lots of pictures) on the updated web site:

http://www.trostmotion.com

Every slider now includes Mitchell mounts and a leveling 100mm bowl. It's also very (very) low profile.

I'll be posting an update shortly about upgrades and trade-ins for owners of the original Trost slider.

Thanks to everyone here for all of your help, guidance, nudges, and suggestions over the last year. It's this community that has made this all possible.

I like the look of this a lot. I've been chasing the lowest-possible profile since buying the slider last year. Very interested in the upgrade path.

Ok, info on upgrades and trade-ins:

We are offering two different ways to move from the original Trost slider to the new M-series slider:

1. Upgrade. Send us your original Trost slider, and we will upgrade it with the new M-series carriage. The new M-series carriage includes Mitchell mount and a leveling 100mm bowl. Upgrades cost US$299 + shipping for the Trost 100, Trost 75, and Trost 50, and US$399 + shipping for the Trost 100×50.

2. Trade-in. Send us your original Trost slider, and we will send you a brand new Trost M-series slider in exchange. Trade-ins cost US$799 + shipping for a Trost 100, Trost 75, and Trost 50, and US$1499 + shipping for a Trost 100×50.

The Upgrade option is more cost-effective, while the Trade-in option gets you the new rail and new Mitchell baseplates. A Trade-in will ship out to you more quickly than an Upgrade, since we don’t need to rebuild your slider.

If you are interested in arranging an upgrade or trade-in, please contact Gabe at gchei [at ] trostmotion [dot] com.

I say yes to the upgrade path. I've emailed you Gabe.
One question I have is there much difference in the rails between the two versions?
And also can you buy Mitchell baseplate's seperately?

The new rail is stronger and is more corrosion resistant. We don't offer Mitchell baseplates separately at the moment, but we will in the future.

Hi Gabe,

Great to hear the news on the M series sliders. I have a few questions:

- Will the old carriages work on the new M-series slider? And will the new M-series carriages work on the old slider?
- If we kept the old collars and puck baseplates will they work still on the bottom of the new M-series 100mm slider?
- Do these new off-set carriages affect drag when sliding? Does the weight all to one side not affect tilting whilst sliding at the same time?
- As there are no clamping collars now, how do you spin the M-series sliders to get the position / angle you want before locking down to shoot?
- Has there been any changes to the way the carriage drags using the pads?

Last question :-)
- Could you go into more detail about the new rail, in terms of it being stronger and now corrosion resistant.

It's great that the centre of gravity is lower and this will most definitely help with stability in all our shots

p.s. I think I might miss the handles on the new baseplates.

Thanks!

You'll need to go through our upgrade path (see above) to make sure everything works nicely.

Yes.

- Do these new off-set carriages affect drag when sliding? Does the weight all to one side not affect tilting whilst sliding at the same time?

Yes - the offset design improves almost everything. It keeps the wheels engaged at all times and the center of gravity low.

- As there are no clamping collars now, how do you spin the M-series sliders to get the position / angle you want before locking down to shoot?

With a single axis Trost M50 or M100, you can use a half-ball adapter to reposition the slider on your sticks. With the dual-axis M100x50, the M50 axis can rotate via a keyless Mitchell mount.

- Has there been any changes to the way the carriage drags using the pads?

No, the adjustable drag control works the same way.

- Could you go into more detail about the new rail, in terms of it being stronger and now corrosion resistant.

The rail has been completely redesigned and is now even stronger all around. It could be comfortably used on a film set with very large camera rigs. For the running surface, we've moved to a very nice new material that is extremely hard and corrosion-resistant. The old rail was great, but the new one is amazing.

- p.s. I think I might miss the handles on the new baseplates.

Removing the handles on the baseplates allowed us to provide clearance for any kind of tiedown - even the "light saber" style tiedowns that come with a lot of 100mm and 75mm tripod heads. That said, if you really like handles, we can probably get you handles... more on that later.

Gabe..do you guys have case options yet..?

Also is it possible now to rotate the 50 slider on top of the 100 slider during a shot
for a kind off compound shot movement..?

We don't offer cases - yet. We're looking at what will work best for the form factor of the new slider. In the mean time, the Pelican 1720 is a very good fit.

Regarding rotating the 50cm slider on top: You can easily rotate it to reposition it. For compound shot movement, you would need to add a Mitchell or flat base pan head in between the 50 and 100.

Hi Gabe,

thanks for for the answers.
Could you let me know the dimension of the new carriage. Would like to see if it fits in my current Trost case.

The fattest part is now 31.5 cm

Thanks Bob. Might just still fit in the centre of my case at a squeeze. I have a cinevate slider case.

I have the 100 + 50, does it make any sense to upgrade only the 100 and keep the 50 with the old chariot / style to use with a small gitzo head ?

It would mean old chariot would only work on 50 and new on 100 I guess but beyond that is it a foolish idea ?

No, not foolish at all. We would just need to get you a new Mitchell baseplate for your 50. That way, you could mount the 50 onto the new Mitchell carriage and have the ability to rotate the 50, which is very nice.

Thanks Gabe, sounds great, I'll do like that then, upgrade the 100, keep the 50 as is with a new mitchell baseplate.
Shall we email you now or wait until you get in touch with us when the upgrade program is actually happening ?
