  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

Hot damn, that was well thought-out, Brian. So here's the latest then, combining everyone's ideas more or less:

Mitchell:

- Puck to Mitchell adapter for the top of the carriage
- Male Mitchell baseplates on the bottom of the slider

Bowl:

- 100mm and 75mm bowl riser that clamps onto the puck on top of the carriage

and questions (anyone can feel free to chime in):

- Do you imagine the male Mitchell baseplates connecting via pucks to the slider, like our current baseplates, so they can rotate? Or bolted in fixed position instead?
- How concerned are you guys with keeping the Mitchell + bowl adapters low-profile? How high is too high?

For me, it's important that a Mitchell adapter be connected via puck because I'd want to be able to swap it on to mount the slider to a dolly (which always has a mitchell plate) the rest of the time, i'd use 100mm ball mount.

Lower is better. The higher the rig is, the more every little vibration is magnified. The Kessler high hat that I have now is 4 3/4" off the surface of the puck. But it could be 1 7/8" shorter, maybe 2" shorter and still work with my Sachtler Video 20 head. (I'll try to send some pics tomorrow.) It would be a little less easy to mount the head, but you'd save close to two inches in height, and if you designed it with an integral puck, it might save another 3/8".

Evin, what do you like about this Cardellini approach? Its speed vs. a normal tie-down? If they've got it figured out, we could try to talk to them.

Yes, speed and ease of use. You always seem to fumble the tie-down or castle nut at exactly the wrong moment when you need to move setups.

In Gabe we TROST.

Ha!! You guys are very kind. I really do appreciate all of the great ideas being posted here. With your help we can improve on the system and hopefully put more good tools in your hands.

David, the 325N is exactly 3" tall, pretty much the minimum height for the screw to work. I personally don't want my head anything but level on the slider so this works perfectly for me.

Thanks for that info, Evin. (I added it above) So it's 1 3/4" shorter than the Kessler hi hat I'm using now. That (and it's $69 price) makes me think it's well worth trying out.

My Trost slider (100 + 50) arrived today and the build quality is amazing. Thanks Bob and Gabe for offering this group buy opportunity !

Glad to hear that, Mikael. I hope to get a chance to check out your software at NAB.

I plan to use a male mitchell plate (basically just a circular plate with a key) and bolt it to the bottom of one of the rotating baseplates to allow me to first tie down the baseplate to the mitchell sticks and then connect the slider to the puck.

Jason, if you go this route PM me and I can get you an extra baseplate to try this with if you like. It would be super helpful to see how it goes.

Gabe - first off these things look great! They literally arrived to a room full of grips and camera assistants in our rental area and instantly there were ideas and mounting options flowing. We have a machine shop next door so I was trying to see about having something fabbed up to use the base plate with a mitchell key on the bottom. Unfortunately, our Jib and Dolly inventory is scarce this weekend, so I have very few adapters and pieces to try out. Give me a second to upload the photos from my phone. I shot with the 50 last night for a gig and it worked well. I ordered a Manfrotto adapter that should be here tomorrow to add to the testing as well.

Hey guys. I know there is a lot of interest for another group buy and Gabe and I are looking into it. Realistically, it won't launch until late this month or early April. I will say, that the price will be adjusted slightly, but it will still be a great deal. I'm glad to see so many people satisfied with the product. Thanks for your patience!

Please already put me down for a group buy! I don't want to miss it this time if I'm away filming again.

So you're not as concerned about supporting a Mitchell head on top of the slider? Or at least, that's not your first priority?

A mitchell head would be great. The bowl adapters are just a quick fix to get it out and working. Our bigger jobs need a preston on the Epic along with other AKS so the 100mm bowl and adapter riser can become troublesome. I get a few more adapters in today to try out. Pictures to follow (finally).

Great job on this project Bob. Any plans for a motorized version as part of a GB?

No plans yet - we'll have to see how quickly motorized control comes together. It seems like more mounting options (Mitchell, bowl) is the priority for folks right now.
