  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

not sure I understand this fascination with dual evf's.....I've been operating 3D now for 3 years and have used dual evf systems but personally I wanna see a single image when I operate.....non 3D view.

but hey.....whatever rocks your boat!
 
I have not shot 3D yet.

I would not expect steadicam operating be done with a 3D representation (yet?). As a steadi-op you need to develop a good sense of what it will look like. But from my perspective, if I can see it how I will distribute it, then all I can say is: Why not?

With two EVFs it might not be as comfortable as simply being able to open one of your eyes as you would with one EVF when needing to get an idea of your operating environment. But I think there might be ways around that by pulling your face off one of the EVFs and still have a rough idea of what's around you, where you are in the room, and still have the 3D representation at your disposal.

There is a lot to be perceived from the two images that isn't there with one. So mine is a simple logical approach, asking to have the capability.

But I would have to try it. And I will keep making my camera op being comfortable the top priority one way or an other.

Thanks Rapheal and Johnny! This was shot in La Jolla. Sure enough, two people stopped and couldn't believe their eyes that it was the Red Epic. One stranger even recognized me haha. Here is another still. Click on the link to see the detail. It was so cool being able to effortlessly walk up and down the coast with the Red Epic.

This much resolution and detail previously could only be accomplished by a still camera. It is insane that I can shoot motion video of this quality. Shoot this on a 5d with the h264 compression @ 1080p and this scene would fall apart. I know there is no comparison..but just sayin. On top of all that.. this is at 5k at 120fps to boot!

I am working in Phoenix, AZ with Red Epic on a Sheraton Promo Campaign. Director Martin Brierly's and DP Bart Tau's first Red Epic experience and loving every second of it. I am DIT-ing with Jeb at the Q-take helm. Clients are extremely happy with the high quality footage (and stills) from the footage. Will post some stills from the shoot with client's permission later.

Hey Tonaci, I just wanted to say it was great meeting you at the Cinematography Workshop last week, and thank you for doing all you could to make sure we all got a chance to shoot with an Epic-M. You're a cool kat!
