  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tom Lowe...

I think I use the 500 most of the time. Eric also sent me a 1000:1.

Keep in mind that his new system will have encoded motors and is going to kick all kinds of ass. Key frame-able, lens motor controls, wifi... you can run it off iPhone, iPads, Droids, Laptops, etc. Probably finished by the end of this year. I'll be testing it in November extensively and will report about it.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I need to move a similar load around, and sometimes vertically, in November. I might hold out on the new toys though. These new motors and software really sounds exciting.

Phil, you're welcome to come join me for the test shots I'm planning in Nov. I have some really interesting shots planned.

This offer open to me as well? I would get you coffee and massage your feet with exotic scented oils (or just guard your camera during the night) for the opportunity to see you work and learn the craft

Quick technical question for Tom (or anyone who knows the answer). You've mentioned that you're using the Manfrotto 394 quick release to attach the Cineslider to your tripod legs.

But how exactly does that piece connect with the bowl? Are you using the "Kessler Ball Mount" or something like that?

Just trying to figure it all out before ordering anything! : )

Sorry,
But how do I get permissions to quote on this forum. I got the M package and would like to ask a few questions...

Well the bottom plate on the quick release plates screws right onto the top of the Manfrotto 75mm or 100mm half ball. Super simple. Then you attach the top part of the quick-release plate to the bottom of the CineSlider, and leave it there all the time.

Cool, it was the Manfrotto half ball that was missing from my equation, didn't even realize that thing existed. Thanks bro!

Time to fire up the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS II and 600mm F4!!

I've dreaming about putting the 600mm on the Epic for years.

Just like me dreaming to put my 580mm f/4 Leica APO Telyt on the Epic :)

BTW, have you experimented with front filters on the 600mm f/4?

Never used any filters on the 600 at all. I need to figure that out.

Good thing for me is, I shoot almost entirely at sunset or sunrise, at 96fps, so a lot of times, I don't even need an ND!

Hey Pawel, can you give me a little more info on this 580 f/4 Leica you speak of? I have tried to look it up on the web and can't see anything like it anywhere. Maybe post a photo.
Just curious more than anything else..

Tom do you point the lens straight into the rising/setting sun with no filtering? I was going to get some sun shots with the 580mm, but not without some serious filtering :)
If you point away, the exposure should be about right at 96 fps, though.
