  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

To be clear...

RED ONE has been the singel smartest thing I ever bought for my business!

It has made me good money, realised very interesting projects and it came at a perfect timing in my career, were it elevated me and my projects - creating a chain reaction upwards!

I have to remind myself of these facts everytime RED is late on delivering.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 are our solutions to Obsolescence Obsolete. Choose one if you are a RED ONE owner. They are your choices. Don't think past these choices... anything beyond these are not fair to us.

NAB is approaching. We will answer all your questions at NAB. We will show you more than you could every imagine. We will be a great supplier. We only ask you to be a great customers. Fair deal?

Jim

Very fair.

I intend to go for stage-3 but I have a question. I don't check in as much as I used to, but I can't find the information on the Red One Reward for Stage-3 and associated prices anymore.

Last I read i was $10,500. I guess this will change if CF has been replaced with SSD and the 2.8 LCD has been ditched?

It seems as the design process has evolved Epic has taken a few turns; which is good news. Has the upgrade package been revised and I've missed it somewhere?

Obsolescence Obsolete... we said it. We believe it. We are delivering it.

The RED ONE was advertised as such. But we realized that it could not live up to the ongoing advancements we had envisioned, even though we offered the MX sensor upgrade which is well beyond what any company had ever done for their customers.

So we developed EPIC. And we gave our RED ONE customers a way to upgrade to EPIC without any pain.

Tense, matters.

The choices you outline are fine by me and the goal of being a great supplier sounds like you've got this Digital Cinema company thing ironed out.

Still, those of us who have been along for the ride are glad to have been here through thin and now, thick. So yeah, being great customers is doable and is a fair deal.

Monsro- FF35, 645...

Jim, getting back to your original post in this thread.
Are you referring to not trading in Red One's for, say, a FF35 epic?
That was offered as an option back before the time came for Stage 2 deposits.
I decided to not put one of my Red ones on the list for Stage 2, to give myself the option of going FF35 with that camera. I'd be happy with going stage 3, and I'm not complaining...
Just wondering if that's what you are driving at.

Jim,
You have been so much more than fair, you have been down right generous! Offering to take back my cameras at full trade in value for Stage 3 is a completely unheard of deal and I can not wait. But wait patiently I will because I have two awesome Red One's that continue to awe me with their beautiful images.

I encourage people to take a deep breath wait patiently as well. The Epic-X Stages are a loyally program. Jim is giving us something for nothing, or at least, much more than we deserve. Why are people asking for more?

Thank you Jim and the Red Team for the incredible cameras I have and for the next ones coming!

See you at NAB!

Mike

Will the knowledge upgrade be available on red.com/support before NAB and will this be a free upgrade?
LMAO! I'm thinking t will probably be a very painful upgrade...

The way I always describe the RED program to people in the industry:

Say you bought a Toyota Corrola for $25,000. You drive it 50,000 miles and then you trade it in on a $36,000 Camry and the dealer gives you $25,000 trade-in on your used Corrola.
Would anyone believe that deal? No way. But that is what RED is offering the Red owners.

Peter

Trust me... we are watching who is naughty and who is nice. :-)

Jim

Gee, I don't know if this is fair enough? Maybe you could throw in some passes to Red Lobster, a week at your time share, the keys to your Porsche, an island in the Pacific, hmmm, what else can I ask for...

Thanks Jim, great post.

I think that's one of the perils of being so generous, people come to expect it and even take it for granted at times.

But I think you're also seeing that deep down people DO appreciate what you're doing and will follow along. Just that the allure of all the goodies and amazing treatment sometimes puts us in the mindset of ... "more ... more ... more!" And we can't help ourselves.

Given that the Epic S35 is sooooooo far from ever becoming obsolete, it seems both doubtful or unnecessary that future trade-in/upgrade programs (FF35, 645, 617, etc) like Stage 2/3 will be necessary or warranted. I certainly don't expect it.

I think the only thing anyone can truly ask for more of is simply availability -- which Red clearly, clearly understands and is working their butts off to make happen on all products and accessories.

Thanks again Jim. Right now I'm imagining a group of Redusers eagerly surrounding the Red booth first thing Monday morning at NAB like it's the stage of a huge rock concert ... and will I definitely be one of them.

Looking forward to meeting more of the Red team in Vegas :)

Anthony

You only think Red is late be because they tell you they are. Actually they are Very early. Who else is releasing a 5K, RAW, high speed, DSMC the size of a Maymia, nobody! Red is first. So Red is early, very early. Sony, Arri, and everybody else is late, or they may never arrive at all, we'll see.

More than fair and much appreciated:)

The Red One upgrade program is incredibly generous, no two ways about it. I'd go so far as to say that it seems crazy from a business perspective, but I'm not complaining. :)

Sincere thanks to Jim for making the offer in the first place, and then standing by it! I don't expect that an offer like this will happen again, but it's monumental that it happened at all.

PS - When I tell non-Red owners about the upgrade program, they look at me like I'm making it up; incredulous would be an apt description.
