  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

To be clear...

It is pretty easy. Just embrace our program. And don't ask for more than we are offering...
Jim

Suggestions still being welcome, I hope.

Exactly Jeff. There is definitively some great info by non-Red members here - so the search methods outlined here - albeit helpful - are not a solution. The 'junk' I was referring to is the classic fan-boy stuff that contributes nothing and makes posts into excessive multi-page never-ending reads that may or may not have some useful stuff. Unless you actually go through it you never know. And that's exactly where the frustration lies.

So, I'll make this an appeal to members: unless you have an actual informative contribution to the issue discussed, please, refrain from posting.

You call this information?

Good idea.

Yeah, that's all nice - in theory. If only there weren't so many useless nothing-contributing responses to every post by the RED team. Seriously, sifting through the forums is ridiculously painful. Some of us work, we have children, choose to spend free time in many various different ways other than try to find useful info by having to skip through pages and pages of junk while looking for the few informative and important pieces of info in-between. Ideally, there would be a way of sorting through everything and only showing posts by Red. Frankly, little other is of any consequence other than lost time. I suspect that some of the people who don't come here simply got tired and fed up by trying.

These posts undermine your argument. There is a social context to this forum which you may be unable to appreciate, but I value it. If we are to outlaw fanboy posts, shouldn't we then also outlaw criticism as well? At what point does this policing of content end? We're all guilty of being fanboys every now and then. But that's what makes this forum human and entertaining and worth spending time on. But I agree in principle with your argument- some people just want the world to know they were at the party- just like some people want the world to know how important they are-- even if they've never heard of them.

Looking forward to placing my order for the EPIC X. I'm Stage Last-in-Line, so can't wait for it to open up.

OT, but those criticizing the forums are missing the point. RED is building a COMMUNITY here. When they get done doing that, the forums can be morphed into a form that is more like a social network that addresses all the criticisms being thrown at the forums, AND continues to help the community thrive.

Addressing the criticisms leveled at these forums are trivial to solve. Better search, user controlled tools and filters, etc. Building a community to the level that RED has done is next to impossible.

By the time the competitors wake up to this, RED will, once again, be FAR AHEAD in the game. Not being a fanboy, but totally surprised that people don't see this. To me its so obvious, but then again, I work in the online/social networking space.

True, and well said. This forum is part of a revolutionary business model that replaces wholesalers (for now) with a direct relationship with the customers. From aspiring Scarleteers to seasoned veterans, there are many points of view, and many ways of participating, but that's the essence of a community. It's not that hard to pick out important threads and posts. It will be interesting to see how it evolves when Scarlet increases Red sales volume dramatically.

The problem is, it's like the concept of spending quality time with your children. Nice idea but it has nothing to do with reality. The most important and memorable moments come when you least expect them and in the most unlikely places.

But this business is full of old school CURMUDGEONS... and the youth that we serve are going to send a bunch of them into early retirement in 2011 and beyond. thanks RED!

That is precisely what is happening. And thankfully so. I can do things with this camera that has left the old guard flummoxed, and I'm not the only one. I'm not supposed to be able to execute productions like my small detatchment crew is capable of. But there it is. And as such, my crews will continue to be lean and MEAN moving into the future. All the department bloat I have seen while learning what not to do on fully-financed agency campaigns has been a joke. And it is way past time to bury all that.

I remember being flamed for some of my opinions regarding crew, and production workflow. Well, the proof will be in the pudding, as they say. I only have a couple "pro" commercials under my belt at this point, but the response to what we have accomplished has been phenomenal. And many of the results wouldn't have been possible sans the resolution, and flexibility afforded by REDs sensor technology.

Thanks for leading the charge, Jim. You have a ton of infantry at this point, but I am definitely aiming to use your creation to its fullest capabilities - EVERY FRACKING TIME I touch the camera. And mark these words: I will own an EPIC. ;) I have held off buying a camera to date because I have felt they were all lacking in some regard, IMHO, and it just did not seem to make financial sense to purchase. That said, I think the EPIC truly changes all that; I have never been so enarmored by a camera. Well, except for my pristine Beaulieu 4008 ZM II. ;)

It wasn't that long ago (late 2003) that I shot my first music video on Super 16, and because I have always been obssessed with VFX integration, was looking for high res solutions even back then. As such, I'm ecstatic someone decided to jump a few wrungs on the digital cinema evolutionary ladder.

The good ol' boy club can die. It's time for some real diversity in filmmaking. I am ready to hear from the cineastes, students of film, and even some of the hobbyists. Not that fake shit the media likes to serve up to us. Indie helmers with vision, and the ability to craft brilliant stories are coming. This camera allows savvy filmmakers to work creatively within the constraints surrounding their productions, and get instant feedback. Granted, there will likely be a disproportionate increase in "bad" cinema, but there will also be a lot more jewels that might not otherwise have been produced. Just ask Miss Rebecca Black. Not saying her vid was shot on RED, but the point is, everyone is going to want their 15 minutes, and high-res imagery to supply their "brand." You're not going to see anything less than 1080p on my channel, for example. If you're not ready for it...you better brace yourself. The people who newly have access to the technology have nothing to worry about. But for the old guard...you better keep your game up. Competition has always been stiff, but it's about to get ridiculous. Hahahahaha.

And if you don't believe me...all you really need to do is stay alive, and keep watching.

Precisely. Plus, we're all human...and I want to hear what other humans have to say.

The easy way to remedy the situation is to post all the important dates, news, et al to one of Jim's closed threads. I mean really...it's not that hard.

Id argue that posts like this (which have now taken up two pages) are FAR WORSE than a fan boy's "one or two word comment and emoticon."

You are making this WAY more complicated than need be. Jeff's advanced search solution is excellent (didnt know it existed) I usually click on jannard and Jarred and Deanan and Graeme and Brent... and catch up on their posts first. EASY.

For instance this little visited thread with Graeme is phenomenal insight into high end VFX workflow and I found this simply by clicking on Graeme.

Cheers!

Great example, Tim. And thanks for the link. This was always a pain in the arse at the network working offline from tape; we had an issue deciding how to record to tape. I probably should have saved myself some headache and just called RED for a workflow.

At the end of the day we'd CC at Technicolor and conform on Clipster. Always seemed a little overkill, back asswards, but we get to work with dope colorists like Sparkle that way.

And we gave our RED ONE customers a way to upgrade to EPIC without any pain.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 are our solutions to Obsolescence Obsolete. Choose one if you are a RED ONE owner. They are your choices. Don't think past these choices... anything beyond these are not fair to us.
Jim

Sorry, I can't understand, I see some contradictions, explain me please who can:))

to this

STAGE 2: Keep your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 2 package ( RESERVATIONS CLOSED - Awaiting completion of Stage 1 )

Reservation period over. Payment for Stage 2 deposits due by June 1, 2010. Deposit is $5000 per camera executed for Stage 2.
Cost is $28,000 less $8500 to keep your RED ONE. Net price of $19,500

STAGE 3: Trade-in your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 3 package ( NEW R1 ELIGIBILITY CLOSED )

Cameras only eligible if invoiced by RED or having completed the official RED ownership transfer process on or before October 29, 2009. Cost is $28,000 less $17,500 to trade-in your RED ONE. Net price of $10,500

STAGE 3.5: Trade-in your RED ONE and get EPIC S35 Brain ( NEW R1 ELIGIBILITY ENDED TODAY )

Cameras only eligible if invoiced by RED or having completed the official RED ownership transfer process after October 29, 2009 but ON OR BEFORE May 22, 2010.
Cost is $28,000 less $17,500 to trade-in your RED ONE. Net price of $10,500

So correct me please

Stage 2
If you Registered for STage 2 you will get it (reservation was closed about half an year ago) but it costs - Net price of $19,500
What does it mean: And we gave our RED ONE customers a way to upgrade to EPIC without any pain?
And What does it mean Don't think past these choices?
Does it mean iis it possible to register for Stage 2 yet and What need to do for this?

And Stage 3
You don't need to register a half year ago and you automatically get right for Stage 3 or you RED ONE was bought before October 2009? OR reservation is closed? Or is it possible to register for Stage 3 now and what need to do for this?
And Stage 3.5

If you hav new RED ONE (I mean with MX-sensor) you can register for Stage 3.5? REservation is still open? Net price 10500

And
"And we gave our RED ONE customers a way to upgrade to EPIC without any pain"
But What about 10500 for Stage 3?
Something has changed?

Sorry explain me please

And

For Example

If you have RED ONE bought before October 2009
Can you get to Stage 2 or it is closed? And need you to pay 19500 or is it free? And what you must do for get Stage 2? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

Example 2
You have RED ONE bought before October 2009
Can you get for STage 3 or is it closed? Need you to pay 10500 or is it free? and What you must do for get Stage 3? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

Example 3

Toy have new RED ONE (with MX-sensor) bought after October 2009 and befor 22 may 2010 and you can register for stage 3.5 for 10500 or free and What you need to do? Reservation is still open or closed? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

Feel free to correct me but my understanding is...

Stage 2 is closed - they are waiting to get their EPIC

Stage 3 is closed to the public unless you get a RED One that has been bought pre - October 29, 2009

Stage 3.5 if you buy one RIGHT NOW, you can't but if you get one after the RED One was bought until the date of that post then you should be able to slide in

Reservations for Stage 3 and 3.5 haven't been taken only Stage 2 has been closed and reservations taken

Stage 3 and 3.5 are closed but waiting on Stage 2 to start

Only way to get in is buying a RED One from specified dates - since Stage 3 and 3.5 haven't had reservations yet

No reservations have been taken for 3 or 3.5

For Example

If you have RED ONE bought before October 2009
Can you get to Stage 2 or it is closed? And need you to pay 19500 or is it free? And what you must do for get Stage 2? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

So Example 1: Stage 2 closed. You must pay 19,500 if your in stage two

Example 2
You have RED ONE bought before October 2009
Can you get for STage 3 or is it closed? Need you to pay 10500 or is it free? and What you must do for get Stage 3? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

Example 2: Stage 3 is closed for all after October 2009. 10,500 is what you pay when they ask. Stage 3 you must have a RED One pre-October 2009

Example 3

Toy have new RED ONE (with MX-sensor) bought after October 2009 and befor 22 may 2010 and you can register for stage 3.5 for 10500 or free and What you need to do? Reservation is still open or closed? Do you need to register or is it automatically?

Example 3: 3.5 is closed, waiting for reservations

Ah children, they run around making a lot of noise, drawing attention to themselves and then somewhere along the way they grow up.

Thanks a lot for these explanations!

Now, I might look stupid but here's my case, I bought a Red One after May 2010 (payment was made in July 2010), MX upgrade is done, can I have access to any of the stage?
Have I got the possibility to buy an Epic X or should I have to wait for the release of the other Epic models?

Sorry to show up with these questions but even when you spend day and night on Reduser, it's not always easy to find your answer...
