  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

At 4k and same compression they look exactly the same, said Graeme himself.
Maybe he is just a big fat liar.
Weren't you banned or something?

Don't listen to Josh, he has no experience with RED camera's, only whats available on the web for him to see. He's never had any proof to back up his theory on which camera's are better and that other thread came to the conclusion the Epic is superior image wise. You can search for that thread for proof.

Take his words with a tablespoon of salt.

Matt, If I may, For Josh ,I would save extra trips and buy a 10 pound bag instead :shocked:

hahaha agreed.

He always seems to show up and make ridiculous claims when he's never even touched a RED camera. So a 10 pound bag is appropriate.
 
A lot of problems I see with Scarlett footage is the lenses that are being used. A lot of Scarlett owners are shooting with regular DSLR lenses. I for one use the Canon L 24-70mm on my Scarlett and it's a LOT softer than using say RED Pro Primes. Put those or some Zeiss glass on the Scarlett and the footage will sing.

Go read the threads. Plenty of people here who use both cameras and think Red One looks better/best.

Yes I busted few liers and got banned for it (asked source for their claims which they couldn't of course provide). Admins here work very hard to bury everyone and everything when things are looking bad for Red or someone who is defending Red no matter if they are spreading made up information.

The RED One and Scarlet [or Epic] do look different. There is slightly different color science at play and different compression levels are selectable. As for the RED One looking better than Scarlet, I tend to disagree when both are used by capable hands, but that mostly depends on which compression level is selected. Most of the available Scarlet compression settings are higher compression, more lossy, than the standard choices on the R1. Other than the bulk and the mostly fixed lens mount, I tend to prefer the RED One myself. It has more connectivity, offers higher fps at 2K, 3K... The available compression options are generally less lossy than the available range on Scarlet, but it's also a 12bit DAC pipeline and data container, whereas Scarlet is 16bit. For me, Scarlet/ Epic produce much greater detail in the highlights and smoother highlight roll-off. They also are far more malleable for color grading in post, and the RED One isn't any slouch either.

Relating to the title of this thread, yes it's true there is a ton of crap looking Scarlet footage out there on Youtube or elsewhere. That goes for any camera though. Just because you may have more DR, more color precision, more resolution, it doesn't mean that what you shoot will automatically look better. If you shoot crap that looks like a poorly-lit home movie, then it's going to look like a poorly-lit home movie, no matter if you shoot it on an Epic, F65, Alexa, LG palmcorder, Flip, iPhone...

Everyone can go and read the locked thread or last pages of it. Instead of asking for source, maybe I should have just posted some personal attacks and threats since those seem to be allowed here (at least for people defending Red).

Or instead of making an ass of yourself again, you could handle this through proper channels. Like talking to me via PM. I was the one who banned you. Believe me, I know why I did it.

Only one making ass out from themselfs were people who spread made up information. Maybe you should have pm'd me before banning me for no reason. We could have talked about those users who make personal attacks and threat other users without even getting a warning.
 
From what I read in threads, Josh, you have a real hostile confrontational tone and method of communicating (which isn't wrong but isn't conducive to discussion). The attitude tends to be 'ass ripping' instead of constructive. You can disagree with people and let it be (right or wrong). Even if they attack you on unprofessional levels it doesn't mean that you need to retaliate the same back.

The forum is great for reading about stories and experiences, issues, improvements, challenges and work-arounds. Disagreeing doesn't have to be with insults and attitude. Who cares if they disagree with you. Why let it bother you to need to harass them back. Even if they lie (which likely they don't think they are), Let them. Do you think others don't read your posts (stating your opinion) and others and eventually hear the truth? People here don't just follow one post and believe it. I'm sure they get reassured hearing others agree.

You seem to be unable to let topics go. You act like a time-bomb ready to explode on topics over and over. Very militant and not open minded.

Anyhow, don't get me wrong, some of your posts seem very knowledgeable, but so very emotional that it's not conducive to a discussion. That's all.
