  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I've texted him but it still just shows DELIVERED but not READ. I can't bring myself to call him at 7:40 on a Sunday morning... as I am a complete stranger :)

I'm pretty sure he would be far more upset if you didn't call!!!!

Brody please wake up!

Here are the published specs of the Stormtrooper Helium Weapon that sold for $59K. If the final Helium Weapon's specs are close to these, then I think each of these FPS numbers need to drop in half for Epic-W since we know the top number is half and the price is half :). The 5K, 6K, 7K FPS numbers could change of course depending on Redcode compression ratios and whether it is a processing power limit or a capped limit for the sake of product differentiation.

The main FPS specs I hope to see are for 48 FPS and 72 FPS (multiples of 24). Based on this chart, my assumption for Epic-W is 48 FPS at 5K and 72 FPS at 4K 2.4:1. I will be pleasantly surprised if wrong. Best case scenario I think would be 48 FPS at 6K and 72 FPS at 5K.

Hmm, interesting that the max frame rates don't vary between 8K and 7K... If we divide that by 2 that would mean the boards on the Epic-W would be way less powerful than the ones on the Epic Dragon, which is kinda surprising...

How long the upgrade path Scarlet-W to Epic-W will last for 10 000?
You just need to inform your rep,
I sure hope it lasts longer than that. I will be tied up a lot of the day on the 11th. :-/
depends on what path you are on, if it Scarlet-W to Epic-W, guess you are free, but if any other path, you need to be online as soon as possible. Got 2 days gap in between my Raven orders an sure that 2 days "seem" to translate into weeks during allocation

BUT that is just an assumption. I hesitated even posting that because I didn't want to spread false assumptions. But we can all know more if Brody would check reduser. I called him but got voicemail.

I literally just made popcorn and sat down on the couch to watch this thread with my four year old. This is fantastic.

Frame rates at 7k and 6k would be killer to hear about.

Gotta install this at every redusers house for exactly this reason

Do we know what the cost is for CF Weapon owners will be to switch over to the Helium if/when they decide to?

Which is kinda what I was trying to ponder before. It could also be just a sensor readout limitation. If so.. we might see 8K 30p (purposefully decreased frame rate to separate the top), 7K at 48-60p (could be possible since down on the line I believe Scarlet-W vs Weapon-Dragon we have 50% FPS difference on 5K but on 4-4.5K it is the same, or almost the same already). So on lower resolution it could be almost on par with helium.. sans the data rate and worse compression.

If I were Brody....

1) What does the Epic-W FPS and Redcode Chart look like? (please don't say, "A black and white grid with lots of words and numbers on it")
2) In regard to simultaneous recording of RAW and ProRes... what combos (if any) in regard to FPS and resolution are possible?
3) Are the stormtrooper specs the final specs and price of Helium Weapon?

Speculation is fun.

Is the fps limitation down to internal data rates more than the sensor (because isn't the sensor the same in Helium Weapon and E-W?). So if we've seen 30p/8K FF at 9:1 that data rate is 190MB/s ish, so perhaps cross referencing that with what the helium weapon is doing would be an indication?

But then it's just fun guesswork. Perhaps the E-W can do 8K FF at 30fps but at a lower compression than 9:1 which has been shown, we'll just have to find out in good time.

But FWIW i'm in agreement about the 50p part, i do find myself shooting 50p more than any super slow so it would be awesome to find out where the capability lays with the E-W. I'm a big fan of full frame so i like the bigger 8K sensor area, but would be super happy with 50p at APS-C or thereabouts. S-W shoots 50p at APS-C size.

cheers
Paul
