The Update Thread

O and I know some of you Epic MX folks are patiently awaiting for your DSCM2 upgrade path... We still need a bit more time. It will be very special in a small but big way.

There are so many upgrade and new order queues now, I'm a little lost as to if/when this will happen. I don't doubt the RED team could pull off something amazing, but I also don't think it would be fair to commit resources to an Epic MX upgrade path while there seemingly are quite a few folks waiting in line to get their hands on Scarlet W, 8K VV, and now Helium.

I remain patient because Epic MX is still a beast of a camera, but this tease has been echoing around my brain for the last two months. I really hope we get a little nugget about this in the August update!

Storm Trooper

Storm Trooper

A couple photos to share, just because we are very excited today...

I always get really excited when I see this sign.

Then this happened.

And finally, a little white storm trooper landed on my desk.

[available for rent too]

Hope you guys enjoy the photos.
Thank you to everyone at Red. Seriously you guys are amazing and I could not be more happy to be a part of this family... especially when I check Reduser in the middle of the night to find posts from Jarred like: "Pay attention in about 9 hours from now... the window will be small". Flash forward to 9 hours later hitting refresh every two seconds on my internet browsers. We were lucky enough to add to cart and check out fast enough only to find they had sold out immediately after. When I went back to actually read the specs for the camera we had just bought blindly, they were gone. I didn't even know what we had bought, only that it's new, it's 8K s35, it has a next-gen sensor, it's from Red, and I trust Red enough to buy with blind faith. Red has never let us down and I certainly owe them a lot for what these little magic boxes have done for our small business.

WOW man! Congrats! Post some footage when you can. I have a Raven but I now want this too - lol.

...even though us Raven/Scarlet-W folks might *feel* like we're catching the back end of Dragon...

I didn't mean to imply that Raven/Scar-w people are being screwed. Sorry if it came off that way. I only meant to agree that it can feel a bit tough to watch newer stuff roll out while waiting a year for a camera

That said, I just wrapped up a week shooting with two Epic MXs, so I don't feel the need to be on the bleeding edge of new tech. Those Epics are still awesome. It makes me that much more excited to get my hands on the S-W when the time comes!

Congrats Jeff! I did the same as you just waiting for my confirmation. Buying Red has always been the right decision for my business too.

Yo there is a lit scarlet-w package for sale on the new posts today section if anyone in the US doesn't want to wait 

33 hours on it. Exactly the same price as new. Without any warranty (or you have to pay and send the camera to Red).

By the way (new July transfer rules):
"The Standard Warranty, and any applicable Extended Warranty, is granted to the original purchaser only by RED. All warranties are non-transferable and automatically terminate if the covered product is sold."

August update ?

After all these good news, I just hope it's not too cold a shower for Scarlets. If we could have a time stamped update, it would be really cool.
My Weapon is rocking hard, but misses its little sister.

Good news? Oh about an 8K camera that I will never be able to afford and am desperately waiting for my Scarlet W. Haven't heard good news for quite some time from the monthly updates. Good for those who are getting their storm trooper cameras though.

The Helium is another supply line of manufacture so it's not clogged up with orders like the Dragon sensor manufacture. It's been stated numerous times so calm down.

I understand the frustration, but Red moving forward is always a good news.
Even though I'm waiting for my S-W, I just am amazed at 8k VV and 8k Helium.

I can't wait to be able to order a VV too.

But you have a Weapon, too, right? For some of us, the Scarlet-W will be our first RED, so I hope you can understand the anticipation :)

YEP!!! With the lack of accurate info on shipping of the Scarlet's I really would like more verity of scarlet footage to download so I can start grading. The other stuff is okay but no great. Looking for some maybe outdoor shots, surfing, people walking, low light, sunrise / set. That would at least keep me somewhat entertained!!

I'll have some stuff to show shot on a Scarlet-sized Dragon, but it's not a Scarlet-W... I'm still waiting for mine also. :-/

It's coming with me on a hiking trip in the North Cascades on Labor Day weekend, plus a trip out to Paradise the following weekend...

I'm pretty calm just looking wait for some good news for use Scarelt W peeps!!

I understand the frustration, I'm myself waiting for the WC battery mount that doesn't seem to ship when it's supposed to so I haven't even been able to move my camera out of places where's there AC power.
But understand that these cameras are precision tools and the QC on the sensors are light years ahead of many others. Paying for a Red I would say is the cheapest way to get a quality camera in terms of reliability. There are cheaper cameras, but that comes at another price, breaking down, specs not quite right, quality not to a certain standard, can't manage to work during critical work etc. Few years ago people spoke of Red in that way, but I've seen so many other cameras fail that I only put my trust in Arri, Red and Sony these days. So the demand is high, but Red won't skip on quality and you should embrace that as much as you can because in the end it pays off.

Now, I don't know what business or thing your doing, or will do with the Scarlet, but if it's narrative work, I would suggest putting your time into fine-tuning projects that will be shot on that camera. I was primarily getting my Red to do my own narrative work, but I'm still doing preproduction and writing for them, so I'm not even ready shooting yet, even though I already have my camera.
