The Update Thread

I understand the frustration, I'm myself waiting for the WC battery mount that doesn't seem to ship when it's supposed to so I haven't even been able to move my camera out of places where's there AC power.
But understand that these cameras are precision tools and the QC on the sensors are light years ahead of many others. Paying for a Red I would say is the cheapest way to get a quality camera in terms of reliability. There are cheaper cameras, but that comes at another price, breaking down, specs not quite right, quality not to a certain standard, can't manage to work during critical work etc. Few years ago people spoke of Red in that way, but I've seen so many other cameras fail that I only put my trust in Arri, Red and Sony these days. So the demand is high, but Red won't skip on quality and you should embrace that as much as you can because in the end it pays off.

Now, I don't know what business or thing your doing, or will do with the Scarlet, but if it's narrative work, I would suggest putting your time into fine-tuning projects that will be shot on that camera. I was primarily getting my Red to do my own narrative work, but I'm still doing preproduction and writing for them, so I'm not even ready shooting yet, even though I already have my camera.

Is anyone in this sort of situation ? Scarlet-W allocated on April 15th, and payed in full :

- Order placed for RED Raven on 09/26/2015
- Order placed for RED Scarlet-W on 12/12/2015
- Switched from Raven to Scarlet-W on 03/14/2016
- RED Scarlet-W Allocated on 04/15/2016
Payed total of €13,737.06
My bomb squad rep says delivery end of June

Then after trying to get explanations, my rep says :
"RED are aware of your situation, and as soon as the SCARLET-W allocations start flowing again,
I can assure you’ll be shipped ASAP."
I was hoping for a delivery but now I feel kinda like I was bumped down in the que :-(

I think Red scarlet W production has been stopped for unknown reasons. It's better to be patient and waiting for an up to date scarlet W batches.IMHO.

The unknown reason are total BS. Maybe if they told us what's really going on, then maybe it would calm some nerves.

I completely appreciate the anticipation of getting your gear and I can assure you that RED knows this too. As a RED Partner I talk with them on just about a daily basis - on the phone, via email, and late night text messages. They are busting their ass to get gear shipped as quickly as they can produce it.

Jarred on numerous occasions mentioned the issue and has gone to great lengths to explain it. RED has an incredibly high level of quality control and the sensors need to pass QC. This reduces the amount of cameras that comes out of each batch of sensors that are created.

As for the SCARLET-W production being stopped, that is incorrect. Not sure where that might of come from, but they're coming out as I have one slated for next week.

It's tough to follow the forum everyday, so sometimes new news and updates could get lost. Rest assured that RED is rocking everyday to deliver our gear.

That sucks.

If you were allocated *before* month of Raven and they still haven't shipped, that seems worrying...

Well most people are looking at the evidence that virtually no one (on REDuser or Facebook groups, friends, etc.) that we know of has received a camera since April. You're a RED partner, maybe you'll end up getting your camera next week, but us average joes haven't been seeing anything. See Greg's post on the top of this page. Allocated April 15th, no camera almost 4 months later. And judging by how many Scarlet-W's went out before/during NAB (and how many were on the floor!) it's easy to see why people think production has essentially stopped.

And I totally understand that RED isn't in a position to give us detailed answers, maybe there are things they don't want to put on a public forum, I get it. And I know that RED wants us to have these cameras, too, so it's obviously in their best interest to get them out the door. But I think a lot of people are wondering if there is an end in sight.

Just like folks who ordered direct, I had to go into the que as well. All I can share is the info that RED delivers to me as I talk with them in regards to all of my orders.

If I'm getting cameras, that means they're being produced. And that also means my customers are getting them. As for the the person who had a camera allocated back in April, no answer for you there.

With that said, the only camera we sell is RED. We made a decision from when the business launched that this is our camera of choice. I invested all that I had to make this business work, we're all in.

The short term is tough, I'm not going to lie -- but I don't for a minute regret my decision to base my company on RED. They will get manufacturing sorted out and I know for a fact are working to make it so.

Again, as I mentioned above, Jarred has been transparent throughout the process. He like all RED team members I work with want cameras to ship. That means they are making money and able to further fund future badass camera development. I don't recall Sony, Canon, Panasonic, or any other camera manufacturer for that matter delivering direct access to the man who calls the shots. While some may not like what they hear, I think it's refreshing to have a company shoot me straight.

When was your order put in?

And yeah, you don't have to convince me on the merits of RED. I placed my order the moment I saw the announcement (which was just under two hours after the preorders went live) so I dove in head first. I don't even think I had finished reading the specs, I just threw it in the cart and ordered. And like I said in my last post, I know they want us to have these cameras as badly as we want them. No one is arguing that they aren't working on it. And I agree that it's incredible to have a company that runs open forums like this, welcomes criticism and feedback, actively engages users, and communicates directly with customers. Again, that's a massive reason why I ordered my RED.

With that said, I don't think a lot of the guys waiting for Scarlet-Ws think they have a clear picture of the current fulfillment situation. Look at the April, May, and June update threads, they went from having specific dates to more general dates to July's being "ship and wait ship and wait". And I want to be totally clear just so it doesn't look like I'm bitching: RED doesn't owe us any explanation or information. Anything they give us is better than nothing at all. I just think it's a little disingenuous to act like we've been given a ton of information and therefore shouldn't be wondering what is going on. Things have gotten more vague and open-ended in recent months. Again, that's the name of the game. I get it. I'm patiently awaiting my Scarlet-W!

Well said. Hoping for an August update that will lay it all out on the table.

Wonder if there will be any update at all. Jarred was hinting, when he did the deal for those 13 heliums, that he should have a free pass on August update. I read it as there won't be one. Or if there will it will say same old same old. More waiting.

I am like others, patiently waiting on my Scarlet-W - which I switched from RED Direct to AbleCine in Chicago as it was suggested. I reached out to my AbleCine rep and this is his response (copied over from the email I received) "So far we have received 3 Scarlet -W's for the whole company. They are coming but at a snails pace. And now we hear that Red is releasing the Helium camera in a couple months. In my sales meeting yesterday it was discussed that the Ravens were going to get Red's priority in production again in the coming months and Scarlet W's will take a back seat I guess..." When I asked if he could share where I sit in their queue he pointed out the different packages or options that are available. And that they receive cameras as they ordered with all the items in the selected package. He also mentioned that several of his clients have upgraded to other cameras bumping me up in their queue...I have to guess that most of his statements are speculation as I doubt very much that RED is going to disclose specifics about their production priority. For now, I will continue to rent RED and if I don't see my Scarlet-W by the first half of September, I will be one of those people who opts to upgrade to Weapon because renting for more than 20 days in one month is not going to make my accountant happy and I am going to be stoked regardless once I actually own a RED camera. HA!

When was your order put in?

I have several orders in for SCARLET-Ws and RAVENs. This specific SCARLET-W is from my initial order when they announced the camera.

Man I'm right there with you as it relates to pulling the trigger on RED announcements. When the Helium was released last Friday, I didn't even hesitate to go after getting one.

** Granted I've been in the que for a getting my user name changed to my real name since December. I'm hoping it happens before the fall. :)

"...the Ravens were going to get Red's priority in production again in the coming months and Scarlet W's will take a back seat I guess..."

I keep saying this, but Jarred repeated, "Fall 2016". The web site still says, "ORDERS PLACED TODAY EXPECT TO BE SHIPPED IN FALL 2016." Maybe it's blind faith, but I'm just going to believe we'll have our Scarlet-Ws by the end of Fall, the latest. In the meantime, I'm going to join the Scarlet-W Support Group that was started in another thread :)

Whatever you're smoking, please pass it down!! From watching REDUSER and the Scarlet W on FB page for the past 4 months and after talking to RED last week on the phone, they are STILL and for some reason STUCK on early December Allocations and not much has shipped since "THE MONTH OF THE RAVEN". So since we are still battling EARLY December, I think if you ordered around or after NAB, expect your camera no sooner than December.

I'm a Jan 20 time stamp and I don't think I'll have my scarlet until October / November. This is all based on what I'm reading and what RED has told me on the phone / email.

I've been thinking that there is a reason there (apparently) aren't many S-Ws shipping.

Maybe Jarred is getting ready to announce that all Weapons will be Helium from here on out.*

:emote_head_explode:BOOM!:emote_head_explode:

*except for complainers

That would be unreal!

It seems to be somthing that slows down dragon deliveries and jarred seems pretty eager to get people on helium. Is it to far fetched that the new helium tech is actually easier / less problematic / less costly for red to make. If so then it would be really disruptive to just go with it and use these more densed sensors into the future sales.

one can dream no. :)
