I've seen some crazy lens price lately. No doubt, fueled by the increasing number of 2K-4K+ shooters. But this one takes the cake: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280977382081

These are possibly worth $4,000 max and probably less. Especially since BNC mounts are unusable as is. Moreover, these are regular Baltars, not Super Baltars. And best of all, if you read the ad carefully, the seller doesn't acually have them.

I'm going to have to revalue my lens collection if somebody buys this.

Well, Ebay is there to make sellers money and sellers maybe try and take advantage of buyers - it's the nature of the beast.

There's a 20mm Kowa Prominar for sale at $8K! elsewhere on Ebay. The seller links a recent sale of a Super Baltar 100mm to indicate that the asking is correct! Of course, another 20mm Prominar went for about $800 on Ebay recently, but that link isn't given. But, sellers want to try and get the best deal they can.

A lot of this is driven by new owners, snapping up lenses at any price (without doing any research) IMO.

The recent mad prices on Lomo Roundfronts have now settled down, so we're back to 3.5K-4K a lens now and that's on Ebay, so I suppose it has it's uses.

But I agree, if this is the going rate for Baltars, then Super Baltars are worth so much more - maybe the posting is from the future... where all lenses are far more expensive!? :)

I think you are quite wrong....

I sold a smaller set of super baltars for almost the same amount a few months ago... The BNC-R mount on these is easily swapped for PL mounts that we make / sell for 150USD each... when that's done that set is worth a whole lot more. Baltars is one of the few old sets that fill 5k FF no problem and they have beautiful look and they flare very nicely. A set in good shape with that amount of lenses is easily sold for the given price i think.
Also they can be sent to scorpio in spain and get new housing if they are in not so good shape. These Spaniards sniff the markets for baltars, which might have driven the prices up.

Bjorn: I agree with you, if these were BNC-R mounted Super Baltars, but they are not.

These are BNC mounts. Quite expensive to swap to PL.

These are NOT Super Baltars, but plain old Baltars that sell for a few hundred each on Ebay any day of the week

If by all means, you sell PL adapters that will fit BNC mounts for $150/each, there is an entire thread dedicated to finding such a solution: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?77391-Using-a-BNC-lens-on-RED-ONE-with-BNCR-mount

So please let us know, I'll buy 9 and Yuosuf probably will as well.

yes, the lens market is expensive. If you want to avoid the expense, you buy new but have to wait 6 months to 2 years.

I like my water with sharks in it.
