  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Also any news on those DSMC2 side handles?

I ordered within 20 minutes of Jarred letting it slip on FB so figured I'd be in the early batches....

NOT THAT IT MATTERS since I won't be allocated my Scarlet-W for months to come !!!!! :lol:
 
Just received my Stealth Weapon Magnesium today. I was allocated last week.

I also have a reduser rookie question? how do you embed pictures directly into my post. Instead of using the attach option. Forgive me for being a rookie.
 
You can just screw all your modules and red accessories onto a small cardboard box that says Scarlet-W written on the side in black sharpie :lol: lol I know your pain. I had too much time on my hands waiting for mine to arrive.

Checking the store today, it now says that orders placed today are expected to ship in AUGUST.

That is one week away. I ordered my 18 months ago and haven't gotten anything, and someone ordering today can get it in a couple of weeks? WTF!

Does that mean RED is going to ship all back ordered units and anything ordered today in the month of August?

Sorry, but this is really frustrating. I just had to sub rent a camera today because my order still hasn't shipped so I don't have a way to power my Scarlet W's. Had I known it was going to take this long to take delivery, I would have ordered two V-Lock I/O expanders and sold them when the RV expanders arrived. But honestly I'm tired of selling off new gear at low prices and losing money in the process.

I just don't get why it is taking SO LONG to get this product out.

I agree--my red rep talked me into switching from Raven to Scarlet-W in order to get the camera faster. Now the Raven allocations have bypassed my preorder date, and absolutely no movement on the Scarlet-W front. I know that RED is just trying to get everyone's cameras out as fast as they can, but the lack of transparency between sales and manufacturing can be frustrating.

december 2015 is definitely not "18 months ago". It was 8 months ago. Still a long wait, but you're adding nearly an entire year onto your count.

Same here, my rep said it's a great move to move over and that I would get a scarlet a lot faster AND he said that I'd have it in May or June at the latest then went back and claims he never said anything like that, lol.

I am pretty sure the RV/Expander module was rolled out with Weapon...which was well before December 2015.
 
I know a lot of people here, both loyal and new RED customers who are frustrated with how things seem to be progressing regarding the shipping of cameras, specifically the Scarlet-W. Something to keep in mind is that not every red owner has a Reduser account, and some that do, hardly ever post, which means that cameras are most likely still being received and we just don't know about it.

Another thing to consider is that 1 upset and vocal person can sometimes get an army behind them of 100 who feel just in their position, that they tend to trump the hundreds and potentially thousands of happy customers who already have cameras. A lot of update threads get turned into battle forums, where you have customers awaiting merchandise and the manufacturer trying to keep the peace and bullets from flying. I understand people need to vent....but it's when that venting becomes accusatory that is frustrating for me to read. We shouldn't discourage RED from giving us these updates by plaguing the very threads that attempt to do so. I just read post after post of "I'm not Happy, RED better fix this, WTF is going on, Where is my camera." It goes against the very principle of what this forum is supposed to be - a resource, a community, a family. Yea, families have their issues, but tell me one family that doesn't.

We are all in this together and for the same purpose - to produce amazing imagery with the best gear on the planet. So give RED some slack...they deserve it, for they are the sole reason we even have (or are waiting for) the gear that pushes the boundaries of what we even though was possible.
 
I totally under stand Chris BUT my rep confirmed last week that the Scarlet W's are still on the EARLY December allocations and said "we plan on ramping it up soon" and he was very careful with the way he answered my questions. They've been stuck on early December since May.

That makes sense, and on that same token, any loving family holds it's other members accountable. If a father says to his kids, "I'm going to take you out for ice cream this weekend", and 4 weeks later he still hasn't taken you out, you begin to wonder about the trustworthiness of the claims your father is making. I very much appreciate this forum, and the updates we receive here. Something no other company does, and it's incredible; but I would rather be told the whole picture than be told little bits of information and try and piece together a production plan off that. Obviously lashing out and accusing people of lying is counterproductive, but holding people accountable to there word is a good thing all around.

hmm.. I'm not sure that's accurate. I've got a time stamp in November with no shipping estimate available.

Well that came from my rep at RED. May want to call your rep. At the end of the day they are just sales reps so they'll talk to you pretty smoothly to cover up the BS.

Hello Mike! My partner did all the original music and sound design. although this was done quickly because it is for private use, he did a great job. Do you need that sound? I can send it to you! he usually either makes it or combines it with plug ins and synths in PRO TOOLS
 
Hey Chris. Is not only here. We are all checking Facebook too. Nothing, absolutely nothing for Scarleters. I have been seeing many pictures of new cameras before May. Nothing Since. They aren't delivering any. And I am sure you wouldn't tolerate waiting for a new car you wanted to buy for 9 months, just to be told well just drive your old beater until we get it. Nah, you would march into a different dealership and buy a competitor's car. The only difference is that Red doesn't have a competitor of the same caliber and price, so they have us by our balls and anything they do we just accept, because where else will we go? The only thing we have left is to speak up, but even that could be dangerous (sending us back in line). So what can we do? Not much = frustration and disappointment.

Lots of S-Ws out on the street are pretty clear via Instagram, Facebook, etc that are "camera gear" accounts -- some of them seem to be from people who have not previously posted any S-W pics..so to me it seems like they're new. There are also PLENTY of competitors. The C300mkii, Varicam LT, and more are all in the same price bracket and technically live within the same quality "world" as the S-W -- not to mention the MANY used RED kits online in the S-W range. Heck, there are even tons of folks on here who are going to give the TERRA a go, seems definitely like a direct competitor to me. Similar to you, I am super preferential to what RED is offering with the S-W and DSMC2 system...every time I look elsewhere I just can't land on anything as concretely as I do the S-W. It's going to help me really take things up a notch and I couldn't be more excited about it...though sometimes that leads to impatience.

Not sure the car analogy is appropriate either. RED did take a certain amount of money for the S-W, to the tune of $1k which is no small amount of money. But because they know their own business and understand that sometimes (maybe most times) deadlines aren't met...they don't take full payment until you are allocated. Even your deposit is fully refundable. RED has been plagued with delays since their start and quite honestly, this far into them being a company, we should come to expect shifting timetables.

I totally hear, feel, and echo your frustration. Without knowing allocation and fulfillment stats ourselves (and rightly so as companies have that right), we can't really say how many or how few cameras have gone out in the meantime. I think we're on the cusp of a new wave of shipping and hopefully Jarred will opt to continue monthly updates in spite of it opening up some pretty harsh words and accusations (to be clear, David I am NOT referring to you here...your comments are strong and you have all the right in the world to your opinion and I don't see your words as vicious or mean-spirited...there's other stuff on here I'm referring to).

All this to say...I've got some really cool projects in the pipeline that I would LOVE to shoot on my S-W!
 
I'm fine with waiting on a schedule - no prob. But the continual 'one more month' thing is what's killing me. As for asking my rep on when he thinks it might ship, so far he's 0 for 3 on his ship estimates.
