  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

That Im sure it does. But 6k helium will naturally be a smaller frame than 6k dragon. I think 4k helium will play nice with 16mm glass.
 
Alberto, fair enough. I cannot really discuss hypotheticals - that is, what the "deal" for "existing EPIC M-X" owners could be nor "EPIC-W" and how that plays into things.

The current upgrade deals from EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON to WEAPON will indeed end at some point. Remember, we have stated that the only upgrade path into WEAPON is via having a DRAGON sensor in your EPIC/SCARLET. So, no one will be going right from EPIC/SCARLET M-X into a WEAPON. What other paths there could be for EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON, again, not disclosed.

But I simply cannot do a compare and contrast to something that is yet to be announced. If you like the deal on the table to upgrade to WEAPON, I would not wait terribly longer. If you want to wait and see what is behind door #2, know that door #1 may not be an option at that point.

I also have an epic dragon, eligible for upgrade. is the helium sensor something the epic can go to? or what you are saying is i need to upgrade to weapon MG to stay in the hunt?
 
Simply put, we have not said there is no upgrade path for SCARLET-W. So, would not worry there.

Answered earlier. HELIUM + DSMC1 are a no-go. To go to WEAPON, would have to upgrade from EPIC DRAGON, yes. My reply above should outline paths and what I can speak to...

i read this as a big discount on a small camera, like a raven or scarlet-w…or it could be a small discount on a big camera, like a weapon MG…i honestly dont think they will just be upgrading your actual body or sensor.

im hoping they eventually make a helium s35 camera in black, i cant go back to the days of draping black over my panavision camera because i see the reflection of it in every window or chrome trim of a car.

Heat is also an issue, and I always thought these digital cameras should be a less heat-absorbing color.

I'm on location and popping in every now and again.

Just some friendly advice as Jarred and Brent are essentially revealing "the best course of action" in terms of upgrading.

If DSMC2 and/or Helium is on your horizon, plan accordingly. They are even hinting at where certain things stop and certain things begin.

Planning is exactly what I'm trying to do. More info equals easier planning and hopefully a good purchase. Of course I understand that they can't reveal every upcoming move as they are running a business (with competitors lurking in the bushes) but every little piece of info is much appreciated for us sitting on the fence and trying to plan an upgrade...

The W with SCARLET-W was more a simple clarifier that it was the next gen SCARLET, one compatible with WEAPON accessories...

They have been hitting on where things stop since Dragon came out and they've been tweaking and stretching the terms every time people goes into panic. I've been in that panic mode myself and I cannot express enough how tolerable Jarred, Brent and Red have been with my own rants :)

However, those happenings mostly occurred during deadlines and marked dates when there was a lot of chaos going on for everyone, if people didn't get upgrades and such during these times (which most of the time spanned a year or more before that deadline) then it's not gonna happen now. Jarred and Brent are trying to please everyone and be as generous as possible with all the different configurations out there but if you have an Epic MX it will either cost so much it would rather be less costly to just buy a new camera and sell or keep your MX than to upgrade to 8K Helium, if there ever was a path. Helium 8K at the moment is a rather shaky upgrade even for us MG owners in terms of speculated costs, so just imagine the costs stepping down from that.
 
Just paid up the rest of my scarlet w order now just to wait for that allocation to come in hopefully soon :smiley:. Also Jarred and Brent if you read this Thomas Gibney my red rep is sensational he has made everything so simple and straight forward, always replies within a few hours. You have a great team on customer service.
 
Thanks for the info Brent, getting a bit of a glimpse behind the curtains is incredibly helpful for those of us that have considered upgrading but haven't yet. I'm still stuck between the decision of ordering a Scarlet-W and keeping my Epic Dragon, or upgrading my Dragon to Weapon MG, but all this info should push me to make that decision sooner rather than later.

Looking forward to October... seems like it's going to be a party.

And congrats to all the new Helium owners!

exactly, and its been made clear that you will never be able to from epic mx to weapon without going dragon first.
thats why my thoughts that scarlet-w or raven upgrade for epic mx via a discount is what i think is on the horizon for you guys, but thats just me trying to put 2 and 2 together...

Thanks, Craig. I will agree with that. I gave him a near impossible task to get a shipment out in time on Monday at the last minute, and he made it with 6 minutes to spare : )
