  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thanks for the insights into the strategy behind the madness, especially on what must be a crazy day around the office. I'm waiting for a Weapon MG to ship. With all eyes on VV and Helium, it feels a little goofy. Not a mistake to go Dragon 6K now, right? I love that sensor.

See what I mean! He needs a raise haha. I'm glad you take notice of people's efforts in your company. Iv worked in sales and retail a long time and there is nothing worse than your efforts going unnoticed by the higher parties.

I can tell you this, IMHO, we have yet to make a sensor that is a "mistake"... 6K DRAGON, you cannot go wrong.

WEAPON Mg, tons of happy people shooting on them as we speak. And, good news, you can always upgrade from there...

Between a VV deposit and a retro epic dragon this is a tough choice! Lookin forward to hopefully some more hints between now and October!
 
It gets gloomy around here sometimes, but this is one of those times I love. And don't forget, Jared and the team have never forgotten about the loyal Scarlet users.

It hasn’t been much fun for anybody having to wait on Scarlet-W, that also goes for the Red team. Jared has a way of making up for things like this, always has. Think this time will be different? Keep the faith.


I would love to own a FN-2817 Helium 8k S35, but damn I am so excited to shoot the shit out of this Scarlet-W. Until I can get my hands on a Helium, I’ll deal. (Now come on Omega Broadcast in Austin, call me with my SW allocation!) Here’s to hoping I don’t regret going dealer.

Now, that is what I'm talking about. The tonality. The guys around here must be blind to this sort of thing. I've been picking image problems since the beginning, I can see an issue in one of these frames too (but maybe it is the web page compression) but this thing is so balanced. I'd love to know where the sensor ended and the grading started? This approaches what I want.

I'm looking toward to smaller compact cameras (and phone) in October Jarred. :) Very happy.

Hi Brent,

A LOT of people still have Red Dragons and they are waiting to upgrade to WEAPON.
I know because I work and talk to them.
I hope the cut off time is not very soon. The path to upgrade has been opened since NAB 2015 - true - but it's been barely more than a year ago. It's very short.
The upgrade path should be opened for 2-3 years. How long has the upgrade path for MX to Dragon been open, in total?

Please understand. I am an early RED ONE adaptor. I used to know the RED ecosystem inside out. Now I am confused. I don't even know all the myriad of options RED offers.

Please consider that you are moving too fast for a lot of your customers. Take it slower please.

Where is the main Weapon release thread? I have been looking for it, but can't find it
 
Seems like there is a fair amount of concern about whether Scarlet-W can be upgraded to 8K Helium.

But why wouldn't it be able to be upgraded to 8K Helium? I thought the whole point of going DSMC2 Scarlet-W was to get onto the tick tock Weapon path i.e. RED has often stated that the tick/tock is:

tick: New body with latest sensor (Scarlet-W new body -DSMC2 with Dragon sensor) and

tock: New sensor (Helium in DSMC2 body)

They are both S35 sensor size so should fit. May require new boards but we have been there before. This tick-tock body-sensor upgrade path is the major reason I went with Scarlet-W.

In my mind and experience Scarlet-W is superior in almost every way (as far as actual image goes) over 6K epic-dragon except that 1 additional K that can't always be used anyway (lenses). So moving to Helium 8K S-35 is a logical move and same size sensor should make it pretty feasible from an engineering standpoint. I've always thought the Scarlet-W should have been called Weapon5K because it didn't really fit the Scarlet market differentiation since up until very recently Scarlet-W was the 2nd best camera you could actually get. So I hope it wasn't given the Scarlet moniker simply to eliminate certain reasonable upgrade paths.
