  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I meant both color and monochrome scarlet-W? :)
The picture teases the monochrome model, maybe that's the answer to my question.
 
battleship grey as the mono version maybe....

Well of course I'm sure of nothing. My opinion is just based on the picture of the 5k Scarlet-W monochrome. I personally think they will replace the sensor (after all they will replace the whole body and electronic). There is all the current scarlet which will be upgraded but they will probably sell a lot of new ones and it seems that making bigger sensors means "more expensive" and "more complex". They are making a 6000$ Raven with a Weapon body, and twice the power of the 15000$ scarlet dragon, I'm not sure the price difference is just about interchangeable OLPF and mount, making 6k sensors must be really more expensive than making the Raven's 4.5k sensor. And it's not about hobbling the technology, it's about making a clear lineup without crossovers. As I said in an earlier post (somewhere), to replace the sensor would make any "upgrade" an actual "trade-in." Not impossible but what I consider unlikely based on the history I have seen from RED. So, I am going to stick with the likelihood that the Scarlet-W will, indeed, have a 6K sensor, even if it is at low frame rates (as before). Even the ability to shoot at a mere 12 fps does offer some interesting capabilities for frame summing and frame averaging. That's my position - at least until 6 o'clock. LOL

I'd explain the 5K monochrome from the standpoint that it is a brand new camera; no upgrades available so no potential savings for prior ownership anyway. A clean deal.

I guess I am confused by what you are asking... you can't do much with just a Weapon brain since most of your current Epic Dragon kit won't work with the DSMC2 body.

Duh and or nope.

Look Terry, you're coming off a little "Trying to be Captain Obvious" here.

No disrespect intended; but obviously many folks don't want bundles,
or paying taxes on gear that won't be used...
...even if it is a "better deal".


Think for a minute...

...There are, and will be, a lot of third party solutions for the DSMC2 platform,
AND tons of rigging/production gear still works w/ the new platform.


Beside the brain, many only require the mini v-mount expander.
or plan on using something else like the OMOD or other solutions for AB batts.


ALSO

A lot are quite happy w/ Epic-D now and have no need to upgrade (or desire to wait for a ROI on a recent purchase)...
...those who don't upgrade this year may consider a brain "Trade-In" option down the long road...
...especially as the DSMC2 platform matures and more options are available.



But this is all academic.



Back to the current event; What will this incarnation of Scarlet offer?

I'm pretty excited by the plethora of options RED continues to offer us. :devil:

I hate that phrase from Jarred: "Epic Dragon owners should be going to the MG Weapon for an upgrade... unless higher frame rates and 6k Isn't important to which the Epic Dragon gives you over the Scarlet-W".
It sounds like the Scarlet-W will be limited again in HFR.....

If you have a Raven and want to jump up to Scarlet-W, you don't loose your place in line.
Scarlet Dragons, $12k get the $15k Package...and you keep your camera.

What is this thing? Another crippled scarlet. Same 5k stupid framerate. And the upgrade is just a 2500$ discount on a new camera? So basically the camera I paid more than 20000€ costs nothing now. And I have to buy a new camera and have a discount..... So disappointed by Red on this one.
 
that is some nice specs and price for a new owner but ouch scarlet dragon owners, hope you paid that upgrade off.

Come on. I don't need 2 cameras. I dont' need a monitor or some other stuffs in the package, but I'm forced to pay 12000$ if i want to upgrade. They took off 6k from it. And they limit the power that is inside the cam for 5k. Great.

Try upgrading a Sony or a Canon. I have a Scarlet MX. I don't feel screwed. It is a camera that still outperforms many, many cameras and it is from 2011.
