  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

what if.... Scarlet-D trade-in let you trade up your Scarlet to a refurbed Epic Dragon? that would take care of all the trade-ins and give Scarlet owners a sweet upgrade, higher frame rates, etc.

just tossing out another idea. it's always fun to try to guess what the magicians have up their sleeves.
 
What a surprise... out of nowhere came this pic yesterday. Really happy to see Jarred having something new in his hands and being excited so much that he risks his internet-connection again. ;)

And it's great to see the name is staying with us. The brand "Scarlet" is precious.

Nice surprise... Guess i'm going to check back on RU, IG and FB 50 times a day now. ;)

You never know!!! Sure could solve a lot of additional outfitting cost problems for some owners! Since Scarlet W is a new animal, perhaps a buy in price offer for Scarlet owners thinking about developing a new A or B camera too? Right now, I'm rather mired in 5K timeline development and could be for some time...
 
I'm gonna guess that scarlet weapon will have specs close to that of epic dragon. The cost will put current scarlet dragon owners up to epic dragon prices. It seems that scarlet weapon is not an entry level cam and will have most everything working owner/operators need just as my scarlet dragon has(interchangable mount seen in photo).

Definitely think you're right Brian. I'd say the Scarlet W gets a little bump in framerates to about Epic Dragon territory. Do you suppose everything in the weapon body system then will eventually have 120fps at 4k ala Raven then?
 
Take note that it says Dragon 5k.

If it's 5k, my guess is that RED will be aggressive price wise. I have to say I was hoping for a photo/still sized sensor in the 6k region (don't need many fps, but rather the size of the frame). Let's see how it plays out.

I don't think it will change. Maybe even lower. They can do a Raven for 6000$. The scarlet-W seems to be limited to 5K. What they will add to the Raven is interchangeable mount & OLPF, a bigger sensor (but the same or smaller than the scarlet D) and probably some better datarate than Raven. I really hope that we will not have an expensive upgrade. It should be proportional to the category of the camera. Until now we always pay the same amount as epic owners for the upgrades. And if it's the case for this one, I will have to pass unfortunately.

I was a bit disappointed the first minutes I saw that. But if they offer the best possible 5k camera I will be even more happy with that finally. I am always frustrated by the limitations of the scarlet at 4k, 5k, 6k. Compromises everywhere. But a 5k weapon camera with the same power as epic or weapon for that limited resolution would make sense and would be really great. However if it's limited to Raven's datarate it will be a crippled camera again. 5k needs more power. I hope Red will make the best 5k camera they can do without limiting it in any way.

MONOCHROME!? option? This is huge... There is lots of demand for a monochrome RAVEN, but a monochrome Scarlet for a good price makes even more sense.

5k or not... I think the number is quite unsharp on that image, on purpose? :P Sure, i'm dreaming of using the full sensor for motion, but we all know EPIC/WEAPON needs some protection.

5k with more fps, better compression and all those DSMC2-enhancements sounds allright for Scarlet-W. I'm in.

I'm pretty sure it's at minimum the same specs as RAVEN, maybe the same chipset, maybe a little better. FPS and compression for everything above 4.5kWS is the big question. Maybe we get 5.5kWS motion as bonus on top, like 4.5kWS on RAVEN? ;)

This looks like it's going to be exactly what i (and lots of others) have been asking for since the WEAPON-introduction.

Thank you RED, and thank you Jarred for teasing us so early. I seriously didn't expect to see it this year. :)

If the camera was 5.5k I dont think they would write 5k on the front. Maybe it only concerns the monochrome too but 5k would make sense for the regular Scarlet-W too. Smaller sensor, 5k size. Cheaper to make. And even the datarate of the Raven would permit to shoot 6k 24fps 6:1. If they let the 6k sensor inside the scarlet I guess they can't justify why they don't activate 6k @24fps. And if they do it will piss off epic and weapon owners.
That's why I can't imagine that they will not increase the datarate. The difference between Raven 4.5k and Scarlet-W 5k is already super thin. Offering the Raven's datarate for a bigger resolution would cripple the camera again. It would just offer 0.5k with limited compression @5k over Raven. And if it's a 5k cut of the sensor they can put a lot power inside without stepping on epic toes with possible 6k or people asking for it. It's time for the scarlet to be a camera on its own and not a crippled epic or a 0.5k more raven camera.

Do you think it would help to merge the threads? I'm following along, but it seems like this one was brought back unnecessarily.
 
Ok @5k. Fine, understandable. I expect higher fps and compression, same level as RAVEN, maybe slightly higher. Thats all i wanted from Scarlet-W anyway. ;) Only piece of kit missing is a sidehandle (with power please).

Monochrome is a huge surprise... and very tempting.

I doubt it will have a smaller 5k-sensor in it and i doubt 6k-stills will be dropped completely, can we have some more fps here too? 15-18fps with low compression for stills and open-gate support?

Or, and thats a crazy little idea that probably makes no sense (but Santa is coming soon): how about selling new Scarlets with smaller 5k(or 5.5kWS)-only sensors but giving all those who upgrade from a Scarlet-X/Dragon their 6k-sensor and WITH 6k-motion enabled? ;)
