  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Meizler Module... The Details.

What really needs to happen is that they just squeeze all the modules into one module and make the price more realistic, maybe under 10k.

Thanks Bob! that was very insightful and indeed a very recent statement. Wow i am amazed about something that is already close to perfect will be able to get even closer...

I really hope RED takes also this Redesign Chance to find a really good Clutch Rigging Config Solution :) The Clutch by Design makes a very unique and great handheld style possible and it would be such a great lookout for the future to be able to keep working with that handheld style, also with Meizler attached.

I completely agree. It would be a shame for such a good (and expensive) rig not to be compatible with it's own company's modules... I'm quite worried about this, also.

from Keslow Camera facebook page

I've been doing some day play as B camera operator on that show and I am very impressed with Steven's namesake module. I can confirm that it works as advertised. The wireless video is particularly nice and it's refreshing to not be tethered.
I'm very impressed and am intrigued by the idea of a redesign.
Cheers,
Harry

The Meizler Module underwent several complete overalls hence the delays...

IMO I am much happier to see this delays of the Module once and again do to RED taking it back to the drawing table, making it better suited for what is not just todays need but tomorrow's as well, and while this could be an ever ending cycle as tech gets advancing ever faster, I still am grateful to RED for having this type of mentality and not EVER releasing a good enough for today product and keeping always a step ahed of the competition.

Having said this abut the Meizler all else I can add is that I am truly looking forward to NAB 2014... ;)

Jarred said in a recent post about the 3 axis motor system that the original Meizler was 3 things : lens control + proxy creation + wireless monitoring.

They apparently killed the proxy idea altogether, released the 3 axis part (WMD + THC) and will talk soon about the wireless monitoring side of things (probably a new module)... hopefully the iPad camera control still being worked on...

The removal of the proxy module was pretty shocking. From my point of view, giving Epic the ability to record HD DNxHD or ProRes proxies with LOG gamma would have allowed Red owners to compete in markets where Alexa has been strong competition due to it's perceived simplified workflow.

It would be a great help if Red would notify folks with open Meizler orders of the changes that were happening instead of just leaking the info on Red user. I know that for me, the proxy recording was a major factor in my decision to buy the Meizler.

Maybe a long while back - but today - with PIX240, forthcoming Odyssey7/7Q and the ATMOS BLADE for $1295 .... why should RED waste time and resources developing something you can already buy for $1295 that works perfectly? They had a window IMO where it would have had a major impact - but that window has long passed.

Want to proxy record? Buy a ATMOS Blade or Odyssey7. Done. And quite frankly - having it off the camera - as-in the directors monitor allows director to playback and even take home his/her own proxies for review and even a little laptop editing in the hotel room - is a pretty killer advantage.

Check out this cage/bracket Nebtek made for the Odyssey - throw a Teradek BOLT on this and it is the ultimate directors monitor WITH playback and edit/review proxies! http://www.nebtek.com/products/Odyssey7-Power-Bracket.html

A FAR more important thing IMO is WIFI control of the camera so that non-destructive color adjustments can be made directly to the camera and monitor path.

Do you slave the Epic (or one to the other?).

Pat

Not sure I understand the question - I JAM the camera with a TC lockit box that was previously JAM'd from master clock of soundman. Roll one clip and then remove the TC lockit box. SDI out from Dragon to SDI in of ATMOS BLADE - thats it.

Slave = jam to a master

Ok I see. Why do you roll a take? Once the cam Jams it's in synch. Have you experienced better synch by rolling a take?

Thanks

Pat

I'm superstitious about this. It's how I have always done it. Most likely it does not matter - and maybe RED's engineers can confirm that - but I have always rolled a quick shot before disconnecting the TC source.
