  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Meizler Module... The Details.

What the Meizler was promising was Prores or DNxHD LOG proxies while the LUT was displayed on the monitor outputs along with iPad control, FIZ receiver and wireless video, all without a mechano set and external LUT boxes.

I have to agree, the longer it takes to come to market the stronger the alternatives become.

Has anyone used the odyssey 7 or q with the RED? it mentions tons of stuff for other cams on their site but nothing for RED.

I had a prototype unit in the shop a while back - record functionality was not enabled - but screen is stunning and a great form factor. I THINK ProRes & DNxHD are still not activated in firmware - so I'm waiting until I hear that those are both active.

This seems like a no brainer purchase once all that stuff is enabled. Would love some proxy making abilities. Are they available yet to purchase?

Proxy is dead. That page is still there as a memorial :)

WOW. So it's official. I guess with new Mac Pro playing down Dragon 6K files natively, the writing is on the wall for proxies. At least for RED investing in that tech. And with so many proxy recorders out there already, this move makes sense.

Besides, I've always believed if you're going to deliver proxies, at least grade them first. Baking them on set, always seemed half baked to me (if you will). Why make S-Log proxies if you have RAW? And why make baked in proxies if you can grade them even better after the shoot?

Either way. I applaud you guys for looking forward, and focusing on your roadmap, not on tech that others are already doing and will only slow you down. Makes me feel like you have other more important things in the fire (which only makes me even more curious!!).

haha.

Well said.

Sorry nothing against Mitch or his (great btw) product but that was worded a bit too much of an advertisement and that kinda thing drives the sponsors of the website nuts.

Times are changing, and fast. I was doing a one day job for corporate film and was asked to bring my Epic. Happily surprised (about the choice of camera) I asked if I should bring along my Atomos recorder as well. No need they said, we prefere to stay in 4K to the end.

Well I think its a shame.
a proxy module, that could record slomotion clips also. would be a fantastic option for alot of people. In commercials with the ever shrinking turn around, it would save production alot of time and worry, if they could skip the
transcoding and go straight to edit.

I mean the R1 kindda did this, with its different proxy files (we would need proper proxies).

My bad. Got carried away.

Ketch, I no longer work for AbelCine. Now I'm at Convergent Design, maker of the Odyssey7 & 7Q.

Ah. I'll miss your face around there and online Mitch. Good luck. Lots of folks moving around and getting nabbed up by other folks before the year is out.

Heheh - ok, thanks for the clarification. While some conveniences of the design will be missed, it seems Moore's law may apply.

Looking forward to future module designs. Any updates on a revamped Meizler?
