  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

Thought I'd share some of the Rouge details here, the ones that clearly show the Aquatica attention to detail, as applied to the Amphibico product. Much more to discover still.

First pic, the rotation lock that comes installed on all port extenders, in this case, the one I use for the Duclos 11-16, positive lock of the port-to-extender interface against any accidental or unintended rotation.

Second pic, bayonet port lock lever, as above, securely locks the bayonet dome port/extender combination to the housing.

Third pic, mentioned by a few guys early on as a possible issue, neatly solved here by the light baffle that ships standard with the housing. Semi-soft foam construction, can be cut to adapt to any size lens.

Spoke with the factory engineers yesterday, a specially designed seal check unit should be ready shortly, I will post details and pics as soon as I get them.

Cheers All

Best of luck with your new housing Tom!

Thanks Rudi! Thinking of asking Mike to make an underwater housing for it. We could call it 3 Deep-thoven, or maybe Deep Purple, no that's already taken...

Thanks Jim!

Have to make that piano housing in secret otherwise Pawel would just tell me what's wrong with it... ;-)

Michael I hope your using Nikonos piano keys or the sounds will be unsharp to the ear around the edges.

Well, you have to put it in sideways - and then you get chromatic aberrations :-)

That's very clever, Mike, but it will be very hard to match Deep Atom when it comes to either size or chromatic aberrations....and, they don't make sewage pipes this big anyway... :hand:

Both Discovery and Nat Geo require HD content. Discovery just started their interest in 3D and Nat Geo is still trying to figure out what to do with 4k. While RED Epic recording format greatly exceeds their requirements at present, all available wide angle underwater optics made for large sensors other than fisheye and Nikonos 15mm do not.

While this isn't necessarily a show stopper and lesser footage is widely accepted by those two networks, doesn't mean that other content seekers are not looking for 4k and higher quality content. In fact, just last week I had three well-known content buyers that specifically approached me with strong interested in true 4k and higher quality underwater material. Not just recorded in 4k.

Like RED, I personally like to have my footage future-proofed and resolving 4k on screen, not just taking a lot of space on a hard disc and delivering about standard definition quality or distorted fisheye images.

Image quality aside, where we managed to get overwhelming interest, is in strong story telling showing unique animal behaviour through extensive sequence work - one that can be only told with a housing not requiring a crane to lift of a deck of a 100 foot ship. Luckily we can achieve both.

The forum may be divided, Tom, but I certainly can't say this about the feedback that I'm getting from those that pay the cheques.

Nice work Jim! Love the MUSIC!

James, what essentially does that software do? Is it meant to be easier to do metadatta tagging work ? Just trying to see why to add another tool to the box....have you been using it for something particular that you like ?

I haven't been using it, I just came across it on reduser and thought it was pretty neat, but it is kinda worthless.

I think it's kinda cool Jim.

I have a specific hammerhead shot request from a footage provider, still in the middle of grading all of the clips, shot about 70 per day, times four days of shooting, all at HFR, lotsa Gigatrons there.

This app allows me to 'scrub' through all of the R3D's and find the exact representative frame I'm looking for, much quicker than loading everything into RCX. My opinion only though.

Great stuff, thanks!

If provider not satisfied with what I have, will pass the request on to all the guys who were on that very bitchin' shoot.

Cheers

That having been said, I would like here to reiterate, all of the fantastic stuff I got on that trip was enabled by Mike Hastings. After being crushed by the Amphibico/Fedex screw-up and the resultant absence of my brand new Rouge, Mike came through with an Epic housing for me at the very last minute, at no charge, an act of generosity I will not soon forget. The housing performed flawlessly.

Despite all of Mike's faults, the biggest one him being from Minnesota :-), he is a great guy, and a real champ. Cheers Mike.

Thanks also to Ron Lagerlof, in attempting to maneuver the Rouge past Bahamas customs from Lauderdale to Bimini, in some sort of timely way, Ron allowed me unrestricted access to his internationally enabled I-Phone, I must have racked up a few dollars in those angst-ridden discussions. Next time in Los Angeles, I owe Ron a big steak dinner and an excellent bottle of wine, at a restaurant of his choice.

You guys rock! Heartfelt thanks!
