Looks really nice, actually kind of surprised at all the extra functions - well done.

I'll ask the question: MSRP?

DEEP KOMODO is RED APPROVED

DEEP KOMODO is RED APPROVED

Is that ... 'Michael's special retail price' ?

:001_rolleyes:

Hahaha! Yeah, Michael gets a 'special' price. 1.5X. :)

Seriously, Michael you're the best, always the greatest respect for Aquavideo products and your industry knowledge. If you want a DEEP KOMODO housing, give me a call.

For everyone else: Price details are available from Gates dealers or get in touch with Pamela here at HQ.

Meant to reply to John's post, but was busy doing taxes (I'm a procrastinator:wink5:) but just saw this and thought it was interesting:

Just took a quick look. Has some pretty cool features, I'll let 43rumors point those out.

Obviously it would be nice for drone work or two camera 3D and It also could be pretty nice for underwater - in some ways smaller sensors can be better in minimizing the aberrations inherent in dome ports.

AquaVideo made several hundred housings for Panasonic sold under their brand name for 5 different Panasonic cameras and I shot with several and the look was always pretty good. Also made a few AquaVideo housings for the Varicam and I believe a lot of Planet Earth was shot with Varicams - although I think with another brand housing.

Won't tell you what year the picture below was - but makes me feel old :wink5: The housing I'm holding had a combined AquaVideo and Panasonic label for use at dive shows, but the other 50 were only labeled Panasonic.

Anamorphic Underwater

Anamorphic Underwater

Hi underwater fellows,

Any suggestions, technical comments and pros/cons for shooting anamorphic underwater?
Known problems regarding focus or sharpness uw?
How about anamorphic adapters to be used with convencional spherical lens?

Please share your own experience or useful links that you know about this.

I'm using a Weapon MG 6K in a Nauticam Weapon LT housing, canon EF mount and Nikon mount.

Thanks,

Why is the Underwater thread under Gemini 5K forum?

Why is the Underwater thread under Gemini 5K forum?

Why is all this underwater related posts under the Gemini 5K Forum?

Since there is a diverse of underwater Red cameras used here, maybe it should have a Forum just for Underwater related posts or at least under a more generic forum.

I wonder if the lack of comments about this subject means that the "Gentlemen's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread" is dead of if no one have used anamorphic lens underwater...?

Rui:

I've been manufacturing housings for RED cameras since the beginning, but not aware of anyone using anamorphics underwater. Dome ports have inherent issues that I suspect would be worse with anamorphics.

Out of curiosity, why are you wanting to use the anamorphics underwater?

Not sure why this is under the Gemini 5K forum - IIRC the thread was started long before there was a gemini 5k.

Hello Michael,

I know that underwater anamorphic lens is something very few have used and maybe for some good reasons. That's why I'm curious to know the experience of those who have done it and their considerations about the subject, pros vs cons.

In reality, the need for shooting underwater anamorphic did not came from myself but rather from a DOP for a commercial. Although I still didn't got the chance to speak with him directly, his wailing was transmitted to me via the production house, saying that the DOP was very specific and wants to shoot with Hawk Class-X underwater.

Understood, maybe John can chime in - they deal with more of the Hollywood types and specialty lenses.

Anamorphics Underwater

Anamorphics Underwater

Hi Rui. We've not met an anamorphic yet with a good close focus to work with a dome port, even 10". Arri, Cooke, Hawk, doesn't' matter. So, most shooting anamorphics use a diopter with good results.

Glaswerks anamorphics have some incredible close focus.

And in a pinch, the Atlas 60mm can get in tight.

As some of you may know, Tom Hamilton - the Reduser that started the Bubble Blowers thread - passed away in February after a 14 month battle with cancer. His wife Lisel Hamilton has posted a thread in the FOR SALE section under her name for his RED Helium package and Gates housing. I mentioned to Lisel that potential buyers might be concerned with a sale by a new user with only a few posts, so I would post here to let the Bubble blowers know that I knew Tom well and the sale is legitimate.

Tom's day job was as a pilot for Virgin America/Alaska Airlines and as pilots often are he was very careful handling and maintaining his gear. IIRC he got the Helium and housing only a short time before he became ill so I imagine the gear is low hours and very good condition.

RIP Tom....

Thank you Michael for letting us all know about Tom's passing - I for one did not know.

For anyone interested in this package - a direct link would help to promote.

Thanks.

Thanks Mike, that's sad news. He'll be remembered for tenacity and generosity.
