I am so happy about the experiment in the 007 thread. I think it is going to be a great way to access the information users want without having to wade through all the noise.

It makes so much sense.

Discussion threads can be started based on information in the MAIN thread (like what I am doing here) by starting a discussion about the idea being proposed in the 007 thread.

Jim. I hope it works well. I think it is a great idea.

This thread can serve as a place to discuss whether others also think it is a good idea.

Looking forward to what mark posts with 007, hoping somehow that 006 does end up "home" one day.

So chime away and create the "noise" here and leave the info over in 007!

David

Yes. A few years ago, reading through 80 pages of forum posts to find the RED team's latest nugget of info was like a fun treasure hunt... but now I have scripts to write and films to finish so would appreciate the spare time :)

We can't just search by Jannard's posts because sometimes someone else on the RED team will reveal something cool too. Or in this case, Mark.

If RED and folks like Mark could tag their announcements with an [actual new info] tag and we could filter by that it'd be awesome.

But this thread thing could work too. I'm optimistic.

I'm sure RED would prefer repeating themselves less too. Better communication means efficiency - less redundant typing on their part and more information reception on our part.

Ok back to color grading at 5:30AM. I love jet lag sometimes :)

I think it is a great idea, may be some other posts should be the same, so that we don't have to search for what Jim and co. have to say and loose time reading others.

Forum navigation and movement, to perceive a relevant stream of information is a challenging task it seems ...

as we see right here ... now we have (at least) 3 threads related to discussing this information ...

a) the "007" ... (which is a cool way to test and have an immediate intermediate solution to the noise problem)
b) "this thread about the 007 thread" ...
c) the one, where it all surged (again) ... "the Mark - meet Melvin" thread ...

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=710758#post710758 ... with Jarreds cool RED TEAM Button

it is obvious, that fragmenting the discussion (a tree) into separate threads (branches) is not scalable or convenient ... the information or flow of discussion will miss bits ...

it seems, it is pretty easy to miss something going on in one end of the reduser universe, while browsing through another part in another galaxy.

it would need a way to have a look at the whole tree and the one or two fat branches that stand out .... relevant to our individual "point of view", so to speak.

It needs a way, to connect the branches, in such a way, that we can stay focused on a topic at hand ... even though it may be dispersed all over the board.

The solution to this is: Tagging and Autotagging

I´ve put my thinking cap on, time to solve "Forum software" ... working on a mockup while watching this experiment of REDs ...

If you don´t mind, i´d like to pick your brain on ideas on improving this issue.

so true, Gunleik!

... and to prove your point, both of us are doing it ... lol ...
which is part of the nice and cosy family feeling on the board.

It is useful, too.
It´s just, that not everyone is in the mood for this - anytime.

Focus is reality.

Guess, someone, in the heat of production looking for a quick fix to a problem ... and apparently not coming up with the right words to type into google ... and so forth ...
needs a different set of tools then the nice "surprise guest parties" on friday nights ... ;-)

Nature of intelligent folks hanging out together is, that fun can turn into serious information and growth ... and vice versa when visions, enthusiasm, red wine and beer gets involved ...

so, how to deal with this?

:-)

Don't you love the irony...

.. he said and continued to contribute to it...

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have nothing else to add to this discussion, but I'm going to reply to your post anyway, as it will pad my post count.

P.S. the attentive reader will note I am operating on multiple levels of irony, however, some of you have only been granted clearance to the first.

Yeah, what if certain threads could be closed like Jim's "Thought's and TIps" thread? Mark could have his own thread in this case. It could save them the time deleting posts too. That would automatically create a separate thread, because everyone will want to talk about all the awesome stuff they saw in the "007" thread. Mark could always jump on the discussion thread to answer questions if he has some spare time. I would love to have a David Mullen thread that was only for David to post on too! Actually, I could think of a handful of guys on RedUser that could use their own diary type threads where nobody else could comment. Maybe this is already possible and I am just ignorant, but it seems like a good solution to eliminating all the noise that makes the good useful information difficult to find.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good open discussion as much as the next guy. I have learned more about things I didn't even know I was interested in by searching for information on RedUser. The good news is I think we can have it both ways:)

Great idea Jim! Let's see how this works.

In deed a great idea that it should have been implemented long ago, however if they
did many of my post would have never made it ha ha.

But I do support this idea and I support even better what Jarred is doing via marking
"RED TEAM" the threads were they have posted and allow to jump right to it.

Truth is that we all Love what RED is doing and this community, so we naturally get exited
and post away ;) Nothing wrong with that, for this I favor Jarred's new filter system
rather then Deleting away, or in peed users form Posting, as it could be bad for their
Hearth if they can't release the excitement via posting he he.

O.k. first "amazing" and "white noise" were clever..we got it.
The fifth one is _________.

If people are not clever enough to click on view more posts by
Jannard..Mark..and Graeme and sorting through some posts..well..
then good luck to you on use of your Red to break new ground in this
industry. Nothing good in Life is ever going to just be handed out to you..
You have to commit some effort and persistance.

Clint,

... when someone takes the time, to write original and hopefully valuable contributions ... like David Mullen is doing, i assume the feedback is an important part of the process, clarifies and spins the understanding deeper ...

There are quite a few bestselling book authors, that say, they do their best thinking on their blogs or forums ...

this is not a one way street. It is a social happening and as such, i think, needs a social approach ...

Jims "Thoughts and Tips" thread is an authoritative resource and would benefit from a website format with chapters and topics as well as latest posts ....

At the end, it is all information and as such, it wants to be found to who is looking for it - all of us in different ways.

I would like to close,
with remembering us, to use our freedom with responsibility and not post junk, because it tickles our emotional brain or heightened IQs ... :-)

Of course, all i can do is ask
;-)

... all that matters, is process and where we end up, eventually.
