  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tattoo 2(k)...

Not many Blu Rays out there that look this good. Was this compressed with a target bit rate, --qp or --crf?

Thanks! Getting great download speeds too, around 3MB/s (yes, that's megaBYTES) :)

Was awesome to see in full 4K at NAB!

Cheers from Japan,

Paul :)

so good !
I've seen it at NAB but ... it's wonderfull at home on a 50" Panasonic Plasma ...
énorme, excellent, bravo !

just watched in 2K, much nicer than 1k...it is worth downloading

This 2k version still has out of sync audio. Is that only my problem?

THe audio out of sync should be fixed if you view it in vlc player. I had out of sync audio with windows media player, but vlc was in sync.

Why the 1K encoded in X264 and the 2K version with MPEG streamclip in .mp4?

First off, let me congratulate in the humblest and most admiring way all the people who worked on this amazing piece. This should be a source of pride forever.

I am really curious about the colorist's choices. Something I noticed with Social Network and again with Tattoo is a pronounced green hue in large areas of several shots. For example, when the young man is going up the stairs in the beginning. Again when he slams the money on the half-open door, and then when he's at the table in the room.

In these same shots, there is pure white, and if I remember correctly, pure blacks, even bright reds. But the middle low ranges are decidedly green. It may be that the world is truly greener than I see it, or that my monitors are out of whack or that green is an artistic choice (both films include money as a character).

If I'm out of line to ask, or if I'm asking in the wrong thread, please forgive my ignorance. I am really curious if anyone else notices this, and if so, is it a conscious colorist choice? Maybe it's inherent in the curves being used? Fluorescent lighting?

Thanks much, and again I say congratulations on such a rich and beautiful piece! Like so many things RED, I wish I could have participated.

Chris

hi chris
the walls in both scenes were painted green
the later scene has broad color depth on the skin tone of james hong
the particular scenes were shot originally in that color palette and not greatly modified by the colorist

Wow, I love the look of this, thanks for the 2K version!
Having worked in the art department for 10+ years, I am curious were all the sets made on stage?

Loved it, especially concidering the extremly short time frame of the whole thing!

Today was a very interesting Day! how interesting was it? it was about 40' feet interesting watching the Tattoo movie in Red studios very exciting for me and everybody that was there

in case you have out of sync sound...

in case you have out of sync sound...

...try using the latest version of your mp4 player. When I tried the 1k version, the sound was several seconds out of sync (ahead of picture), both in vlc and also Nero Showtime 4. However, I had an older version of vlc (maybe 0.71? I forget). I downloaded the current version vlc 1.1.9 and then the sound was in sync.

For the last year or maybe even more, it has been a really popular film look to add blue/green to the shadows while keeping skin tones fairly neutral and high mids and highlights on the orangy/warm side. Almost everybody does it.

You can rest assured that this footage can be perfectly white balanced and that everything else is artistic direction.
