""yeah, those don't really answer my question though. The closest I got was the mention of a flickerbox which confuses me even more since this isn't a candle or campfire effect I'm seeing. Its pretty much like shooting at wrong shutter speed as I said earlier. Guess I'll just have to PM David and ask him directly""
the flickering is a magic gadget shadow maker controlling a 575w hpl lamp in a source four leko
because of the scr circuit in the device and the hpl lamp, it makes a slight high frequency strobe effect.
i like it. I use it all the time. it jumps out a bit to the viewer. if I want to tone it down, I add a ghost standard tungsten light to the circuit.
in lincoln there is a scene with ddl and tad beside the fireplace and it has a similar effect, but since it's cut using more medium shots, it's less noticeable. what you are seeing is the harmonic of the bulb filament. I like it. a general audience will know something is going on but won't know what it is.
when we shot tattoo, I asked jim and jarred if they wanted me to stay away from this effect because someone will surely blame the camera . jim said 'shoot it however you feel' they were truly the best to work with. it would be great to make a dragon film with bill directing, jim and jarred producing.
