Hey guys ...

I bought a Raven package from Luc Rob in Canada serial number #000865 and the brain was stolen out of the pelican case in customs. Everything else was in the package. If anyone sees this Raven surface, please let me know. We really really need this brain. 219.208.0720.

That is awful, I'm sorry that there are terrible people out there.
You're saying it was stolen during shipping, en route to you?

Can you not grab any cctv from the area of your pelican case from customs, there has to be cctv in customs. I hate seeing things like this!

And you are sure this Luc did not forget to put the camera in the case?

I do not know Luc maybe he is a guy you can trust.... but just saying. I rented out our complete dragon kit and the guy came back with a couple of lenses a charger and some batteries and claimed he was robbed and that the rest of the stuff was lost. Now that was not true. Later I found pictures of him and his friends together with my camera taken far down in africa where he did not say he traveled during the two day rental. So he simply handed me back some of the stuff to make him look more trustworthy.

I think with the larger quantites of raven and the, compared to weapon, lower price its sadly a perfect item for fraud.

This is my gut reaction as well. The whole story of a person at Canadian or USA Customs stealing a Raven brain sounds very suspicious. I've dealt with customs in China, US, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Israel, and transitted lots of gear through Russia, Japan and the rest of the aforementioned countries, and never once had anything stolen. Sure, I've had some headaches dealing with customs, but outright thieves? I seriously doubt that. If the seller is the one who suggested the camera was stolen at Customs, that to me is a major red flag that he in fact scammed you. Customs officials can be obtuse, slow moving, cold, etc but the idea of their thieving a camera just seems so unlikely. Having been in multiple customs houses around the world, it's also extremely unlikely that this happened, as those facilities are usually highly supervised and monitored.

I totally agree this sounds REALLY suspicious of the seller. I've worked with the US and Canadian customs... (and although sometimes they hassle you) I haven't seen them steal stuff. If anything they just charge you big import or duty fees.

Check the shipping weight as others have suggested and then go from there.

How did you process payment to the seller?

Quite a few helpful hints in the prior posts - weight is a good lead.

Taking that a bit deeper, what common carrier was tasked with shipping?
They may have measured weight at more than one point in transit. If so, it can help isolate where the "discrepancy" occurred.

Who first pointed the finger at Customs?
That could be a diversion.

Does not help with the timeframe you are working under, but was it insured?
If so, who is it payable to?

Sounds like checking the weight of original package is way to go.

Sorry to hear you are going through this.

These experiences are never fun.

And unfortunately it comes at a time when you're really busy. But, honestly, it seems like somebody is trying to take advantage of you Levi and you're going to have to take the time to follow up on these things and explore what avenues you have available to you.

Oh man that is horrible. I hope it resurfaces soon. Someone once stole something from a friend of mine and we saw it on craigslist. We set up a sting with police and busted the guy once we confirmed it was ours.
So yeah, I hope they are retarded and post it up for sale.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I've bought a lot of stuff off the RedUser forum (about 80% of my equipment) and never had any issues. It feels odd that he would have taken it because he's been straight forward with everything.

I first thougt that it was customs because he sent me two photos of everything in the case before it was shipped. But then I asked him what box it was in to see if it had been re-packaged or something and it turns out he left it at the UPS place for them to pack. Odd, so I have to see why that was done

Checking to to see who the insurance is payable to.

Going to to report the brain today but I figured the RED User group has a broader reach so I wanted to post here first.

I'll also check the weight.

Payed through wire transfer.

Has the seller even been in contact with you? Was the shipment insured?
As soon as I opened the box and saw no brain I fired off a text to him and he replied pretty quickly. He was actually the one who told me to check weight, which I did on a scale I had there, but the weight was off. The bill said 28lbs but the package came in at 31lbs. So I'm bringing a better scale to try today.

The he package was insured for $15,000 yes.
