I have to say here that Steve has had a tremendous influence on my life. I don't hold many as role models, but Steve certainly qualifies. He has inspired me.

I hold Steve in rare air. Walt Disney type air. To see health issues at his age touches me deeply. I only wish the best for him and hold out hope that he has many good years ahead of him.

I have met with Steve and found him extremely personable, respectful and wicked smart. I have also had the great luxury of hanging out with some incredible people... including Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong, Peter Jackson, Steven Soderbergh, Leo DiCaprio and David Fincher to name a few. There is an intangible quality in some that have been granted very special gifts. Steve qualifies... in the highest order.

God bless us all.

Jim

Amen to that....

being rather young Steve Jobs has been a major influence on the way I perceive what is possible.

I wish the best to him, his friends, and family.

Amen Jim.
We work, create, comunicate and enjoy... with Steve tools.
One among many.
Best to him.
Vico.

I've looked up to Steve tremendously for decades. He's had an enormous impact on my life and career path, even if we've never met. I wish him nothing but the best and truly hope his medical troubles are but temporary. Get well soon, Steve...

When I was in college, I transferred from the University of Colorado at Boulder to Cornell. I worked so hard on that essay and had everyone I knew read it. It was written on MacWrite on box shaped Macintosh 512K with the computer and CRT monitor combined. I believe MacWrite couldn't store more than eight pages in one file at that time.

I'm dyslexic, so I have to edit and rewrite a lot. I always said that if it weren't for Steve Jobs I would never have been able to get into Cornell... b/c I never would have been able to write that essay. He will always be part of my life.

I have been an Appleuser for many years before becoming (also) a Reduser.
I fully understand what you mean, when you write "the highest order".

Ok, just to say that sometimes I'm very proud to become a fanboy.

God bless Steve.

Steve Jobs is one of the few true visionaries. My prayers go out to him and his family. Jim, I think you are a visionary too. What you're doing with RED is changing the whole industry. IF one day, you feel like spilling the beans on how you started Oakley with a few hundred bucks and got to where you are today, I and many others would love to hear your story :).

Thanks much for this Jim, couldn't agree more. I'm only 32 but my Dad brought the Apple 2e into the home when I was a toddler. Since those days I've always been an Apple user ... Recently, seeing how Steve first saved the company after he was kicked out, and then came back from surgery to make it the top technology company on the planet -- just awe inspiring.

Apple still needs Steve, but more importantly the world still needs his brilliance to drive forward innovation in the coming decade.

Like you I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

The speech he gave at Stanford was inspiring and worth revisiting.

We can all benefit from these words.
I also thought of posting this because it really stands out...

Tough I must admit I'm not very happy about the recent trend with the professional product line of Apple - their products and philosophy always had and have a big influence both in my private life and on work/business level - most of the time in a very good way! I'm a happy Apple user since the Classic OS (I started with G3 towers on Mac OS 9) and never went back.

I wish Steve and his company good luck for the future!
At least on a personal level - health is always more important than shiny products or success in business. As for his decision - I'm sure he knows better what to do with his life than all the analysts and tech-experts who only have the stock market in mind most of the time.

Yes very sad in deed, and been in severe health issues my self, with years spent in the hospital and many more awaiting,
I also fill for Steve, as He in deed is an extraordinary person, and I don't know him well at all , only had the pleasure of
meeting him at an event, and is smile is contagious, and his simplicity vs. the personality that He really is, is refreshing.

Best wishes for a fast recovery..

I don't own or use any Apple products, but I respect and admire someone who understands what will sell.

I do indeed send good vibes Steve Job's way, not only for his return but for his return in good health.

And when or if he returns, I hope he will adopt the Jim Jannard business model going forward.

Pretty much how I feel. Hope Steve Jobs makes a quick recovery.

Ironically, Steve owns about 7% of Disney.

It's strange but if you've ever come close to death, you worry about the ones you'll leave behind. The people who fear your own death are the ones who need the most comfort.

Let's wish Steve's family and friends the grace and strength needed at this time.

A good friend of mine who taught me so much about video and photography when I was in high school and college passed away from a sudden heart attack this past week. He inspired me to work in the video production industry. He was so proud of me when I landed a job as a video editor for a major production company in southern California. He changed my life, and I owe all my successes to him. Life is short, and people may leave us at anytime. It's important to enjoy life and cherish friends and family as much ad you can; you never know when it's going to be their time (or your time!)
