STAGE 2: KEEP your RED ONE and get EPIC-X Stage 2 package

No one is actually selling their R1's right now are they?

I thought they were just "leasing" them out until they officially receive their Epics then they will sale them officially with name trades and everything.

Maybe I misunderstood what they were doing.

I think this is eactly the practice that Jim and Jarred are talking about. The "I would sell if I could but don't want to miss out so let's find a loophole" scenario. When something is legally accurate but goes against the original spirit of the offering, I can understand why they would be disappointed.

Wow.. a lot more people participated in this than we thought.

I anticipated this thread would get emotional the moment I posted it. We have received an array of touching emails this morning from some of you that have engaged in this.. and honestly it sounds like many of you were not trying to take advantage of the situation, they just didn't understand what they were getting themselves into. A lease-to-own counts as a transfer. Anyone that wants to argue that point can talk to the lawyers.

We will deal with this on a case-by-case basis. Those that contact us, explain their situation and take care of the the transfer of ownership the correct way, so we can update our records, will receive forgiveness.

It is sometimes not easy to take the high road when things get personal... but we can put this all behind us... as long as this lease-to-own thing ends today.

Deal?

Kudos to Red for maintaining a high degree of fairness!

.

I think that is a very very good and generous move!

(And I am so glad not to be in their situation, I have my #476 right here - and I will use it for at least another decade along with Epic and whatever comes from RED in the future!)

That sounds very, very fair. Who do we contact to explain the situation, and what's the best way to do so?
Thank you so much for the response and willingness to work with us on this.

Got to say, just about the time when I got the Epic M email I considered letting my RED ONE go. Purely to cover me while the Epic M deal went through. But when it came to it I just couldn't do it. Instead I went into the Red with the bank and got an overdraft, I'm happy to say that overdraft is now paid off. And in this few months since I received my Epic M, I have used my RED MX on all but one of my jobs, the Epic M is in great demand over here, so I let her earn her keep and my Trusty RED MX has paid for itself so many times over it's unreal. I can honestly say that I have never made an investment that gave me the return that my RED has and still does every month. The idea of letting RED 1754 go would be like kicking one of the kids out! Except they cost me money..lol. RED is a cool company, I'm sure all this will be resolved.

If I was a multi billionaire I'd rather be chilling out on my private island, surfing and spearfishing everyday with all my bikini model "girlfriends" enjoying life, caring about my suntan and making sure my submarine sinks right......just saying

And what about passion and purpose? Why did multi-billionaire Steve Jobs remain CEO at Apple and drive things despite being sick as a dog? Or deal with trivial things like antennagate or the Gizmodo incident.

Because these guys eat, sleep and breath their company -- and are committed to something HIGHER. To changing an industry, even the world. The money is a distant second to that -- and probably for guys like Jim and Steve it's not even in the top 10.

If it were #1, then you're right, no reason to continue working when you've got more money than you could ever spend in a lifetime.

Thank God for guys like Steve and Jim, they are the true movers and shakers.

Edit: Glad to see that post from Jarred!

I sincerely don't understand why some people are taking exception to what Jim and Jarrad have articulated here.
Like many others, I purchased my R1s long before Epic was a reality, let alone the announcement of the different stages. When the Epic-X stages were announced, it was explicitly clear what those stages meant. No one at RED minced words, and I understood that if I wanted to opt for stage 2 I would be retaining my R1, which of course I have.

It seems to me that some people may have sold their R1s knowing full well that wasn't part of the agreement. Instead of waiting until delivery of their Epic-X (stage 2) before selling off their R1s, they decided to sell before hand, and that does come across as cheating.

As for the rest of us who have played by the rules, I'll be more than happy to hang on to my R1 #1600. I love my camera, and I love the fact the RED has been so generous to me. The last thing I'd think of doing is try to cheat someone who has been nothing but great to me.

For what it's worth.

Edit: I haven't been on here for a long while now, and I sincerely have no idea why my REAL NAME isn't appearing, which it should.

I said that is what I would do......I dont eat, sleep, talk business.
I personally know a few millionaires that have really sad boring lives

Thanking God (and Jim and Jarred) that this event is resolving appropriately. I've been biting my keyboard waiting for a reasonable resolution. And I am keeping my Red One per the agreement I very easily comprehended. And I love my Epic M and am anxiously awaiting its brother (or sister?) Epic X...

It's a shame that Stage 2 got abused. :rolleyes5:

It is, by far, the best offer since you ultimately end up with a great studio camera and a more mobile/modular high-speed younger brother. I only wish I had an opportunity to float both systems.

This is really simple guys.

The Stage program was a program created to take care of our family... you guys are not just customers to us.. we really look at you as our brothers and sisters.

It was ( at least we think ) an incredible gesture to show how much we value that relationship.

To find people trying to go around the system by doing sketchy lease to own and $1 sales to get around the rather simple terms is just plain wrong. It not only breaks our obligation to provide whatever stage you signed up for.. but it also breaks our hearts. It's really that personal.

We have watched this go on for awhile.. Jim has posted that it upset him.. but people continue to do it.

For all of you guys here that have posted that you have kept your camera and have stated various states of affection for your R1... We will never forget. We love you guys. For those of you like Andrew that have kept your camera and plan to sell it afterwards for various reasons... you are good in our books. But those of you that have sold off your camera and somehow think that a loophole makes everything o.k... Re-read Jim's signature.

Is there any other Company in the world that this type of connection/respect/love for its customers? I think not. This is one of the reason I have so much respect for Team Red. I have never understood those that choose to shit in their own nests.

I think that's the most likely scenario, given the complexity of the situation. My bets would be that if you were stage 2 and still have your R1 when Red Dragon is ready to be applied, you get priority boarding. All others wait until later, no special treatment for any class.

Free SSD module for red one stage 2 owners.

makes sense right... sell more ssd cards..

Wasn't stage 2 introduced because customers requested it? It seems like the initial offer from RED was the stage 3 return your RED One for a full refund applied toward an EPIC. Stage 2 was introduced when customers asked if they could be allowed to keep their RED One because they felt an attachment to it. That's the sentiment that encouraged Jim to make the incredibly generous offer to keep the camera you love and we'll sell you our next, better camera at a huge discount. Is that not right?

When I heard about the Stage 2 offer, it was a no-brainer. The thought of selling my Red One never occurred to me. Wow...you mean I can KEEP my Red One and have A and B cameras, a back-up if one goes down, or the Red one configured for dolly and the Epic-X configured for
Steadicam or jib or whatever so I don't get burdened with a very time-consuming re-configuration going back and forth between different modes. And how much did I save? LIke I say, a no-brainer. An unbelievably generous deal! I don't think I've ever sold any of my cameras, even if I don't use them anymore. I still have my black & white Sony EIAJ reel-to-reel Port-A--Pack from the early '70's and my first 35mm Argus from my childhood...
I read the Stage 2 agreement as KEEP.

the only remaining question i think of...

will it alter delivery sequence ?

How will it work ?

sorry, i'm confused by this story.

Antoine

edit: BTW I still have and enjoy Miss Rouge #403 :)
