I was interested in exactly how different some of my lenses were in real world comparisons. I lit a scene that might come up in my line of work, and swapped out a bunch of different lenses. The results were that I liked them all.

Yes, I know, I focused a couple inches deeper or shallower on a couple lenses, if I had it to do over again I would have done it a little differently, but it was mainly general comparison, not scientific.

Well that's no fun. Can I attach pictures larger? How does Sanjin load a still the size of Austria?http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9797/lens1.png

So... what lenses are these?

If you upload the images to a server and embedd them here, you can have them bigger. They will be scaled down for preview in the forum, but people can right-click and choose "show image" and get to see them fullsize...

People seem to use imageshack quite a bit...

No one knows except Sanjin, he has contacts that others cant reach.......

If you find out let us know. And if you do get hold of Sanjin, please enquire if Red have send their Leica M mount for his approval :-)

Lomo sphericals and anamorphc?

If I get a minute I'll try to figure out how to post larger images. They look quite nice big.

Lens 1 50mm lomo standard speed 1990
Lens 2 lomo (really MKBK but everyone calls them lomos) 50mm super speed
lens 3 Canon k35 55mm
lens 4 Ekran/elite 25-80 zoom at 50mm
lens 4 50mm lomo square front anamorphic

I know from previous shoots and experiments that the lomo speeds are very very similar to ziess speeds, the k-35 is a little warmer. But over all I think it remarkable how similar they look. You could certainly make them match perfectly in post.

YES!! now this is a TEST... all those charts and shit... dont do SQUAT... its all about AESTHETIC when buying lenses.

MORE MORE MORE! thanks man!

I almost recognized the Canon :) I think that one outperformed the others by far. The DOF is so much nicer with the perfectly round blurred highlights
I Actually have that exact lens. Canon K35 55mm with BNC-R mount for sale if anyone is interested.

I'm really digging the pretty circles on the K35 and the elliptical bokeh on the Lomo 50mm Standard.

So, were these all at the same stop, camera settings etc? If not ... which was at what settings?

I ask because there is a very great difference in the size of the candle's bokeh in these shots.

All shots were at a 2.3 ish (wide open on the 50mm lomo), except the zoom (wide open is t3.4 - corrected exposure with asa) and 50mm anamorphic is wide open at a t2.5. SO except for the zoom, more or less the same stop across the board.

Not sure what you mean by the bokeh of the candles. In some shots they are more in focus than others, plus they are candles, so they flicker and change shape. If you mean the tiny lights in the back ground, then that's a different story. They are little flowers with led bulbs in them.

For the last one, I think its because for instance the Anamorphic creates an elliptical bokeh. Canon K35 55mm has a ton of blades so its by far the most circular bokeh (I love K35s!).

I have since sold almost all of these lenses except the anamorphics and the 25-80 zoom (i have two). I'll be getting a set of Illumina s35s in the mail monday, maybe I'll shoot some similar tests with those.
