  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some Guy On YouTube Says RED ONE Actually Pixel Shifts.....

It's a shame there's so many idiots on YouTube... Especially in the comments, it seems that two out of every five (at least) people who comment on anything technical either have no idea what they're talking about, just post stupid and pointless stuff (like "First!!!!!111" comments), or are just generally idiots.

As of Feb. 2009 (one and a half years after shipping began):

I'm pretty sure this was just a prank... there is no way the guy could of honestly been serious.

The website (pickadamsbrain.com) and the video look to have had quite a bit of effort put in to it... they must have really wanted to prank RED.

*COUGH*sony*COUGH*

The site also had headings for some other subjects, but I only looked at one of them and it said "coming soon", so maybe it was all just window dressing for the RED segment. Dunno.

If you got under somebody's skin enough to make them go to all that trouble... good job!

please someone tell me they saved it somehow... I would LOVE to see this for kicks
Sorry cleared my cache ,

I think Jarred is right it must have been a deceptive spoof as there was no other content on the site except the ill concieved red 4k explanation which in my mind may have been a deliberate ploy to attract potential customers to other camers in his inventory, you know sorta like bad publicity is good publicity guess it would have worked well had it not been leaked to youtube ...

"nar nar you dont want the red "4k" for this job... forget what youve heard all
roumers. take the panasonic hpx3000 coupling device is much better (lol) "

Id love to see a 3 cmos chip Red someday :tt1:

Don't know if you're joking, but in case you aren't--it'll never happen, I think, because, as I remember Red saying the entire prism thing breaks down as the chips get bigger. The three chip cameras that are out there now are pretty much at or just beyond the limit of what a prism can handle before messing with the image so you could never get a S35 3 chip camera.

stranger things have happened

My problem is the RED getting to the head. It happened with me, I see it here, and it's a slow life round these parts not a slow day.

I'm really ticked off at the people I was working with.

They got a chance to shoot this thing now they dress different.

Until I saw what my guys turned into when they had the chance at it. Very very very unhealthy attitude. Everything else we used to embrace was reduced to crap.

I kinda freak out when ppl mention it here, coz it really got in the way of acting/set/attitude/communication, all those things that make a film or a piece of work etc.

One week into it I said screw this get this thing out of here and everyone talk to me when you're yourselves again - to my guys.

Anyone have this problem? Everyone suddenly acted like hot shit cause they've got a RED all of a sudden?

Sounds like you're more angry with your friends (who do kinda sound like tools) and not with RedUser. I get the impression that the people here frustrated with other people's negative comments about Red are frustrated because those negative comments are usually uninformed and ignorant and lead to disruptions in work flow on set or during pre-production when trying to get Red considered as a viable option (where it very often is a viable option). In other words, they're upset because they have to deal with unreasonable crew members, the way you have had to.

Agreed. Tarek, your experience sounds pretty unique I must say, and I think has almost nothing in common with the discussion in this thread. Sorry your coworkers turned into a bunch of posers, but don't you think that's the fault of their own, and not the hardware?

EDIT: And to be clear, what got us heated here is arrogant ignorance, not specifically that he was speaking of RED (although the fact that he was, meant that it was relevant to this forum). If He was speaking so incorrectly about the F35 or D21, I have a feeling many here would be just as passionate about explaining to him the facts.

I understand completely and agree. Had all appropriate talks. Still there is a bit of die hard and gear lust going on and it does get to me sometimes.

I apologize for sounding hostile in any way and maybe taking things out everywhere.

Going back to reading the posts for a while.

Cheers everyone

That's certainly one way to hide one's tracks, i.e. if you don't want anyone to know who actually owns & runs the website...

Jim - please don't forget Antichrist by Lars von Trier. It's in Cannes and in the competition. Can't believe why it's not on the "Shot on RED" on red.com.

you're right.. posted before in this thread actually.. the most funny is that should be red to claim the attention of a worldclass filmmaker.. not the opposite.. saint red ignorance

edit
hey.. forgot to write.. LT is not only a worldclass artist.. he's the principal red star.. no less.. probably this is the only 2009 production shot on red which will often be seen yet in 2059 2069 2079 2089..

yeah, I actually like his T shirts :)

Looks like he has taken the criticism to heart

"Video has been removed by the user."

It would be fascinating to learn how he came to absorb so much inaccurate info.

There is a link on www.highendtv.com to pickadamsbarin.com.
Also on www.highendtv.com is a document apparently authored by Adam Mills regarding a shootout between various cameras including RED. http://www.highendtv.com/shootout/ShootoutFINAL.pdf
To quote from the document
"This study focuses only on the quality of the cameras’ picture at 3200k preset right out of the box, not on their
recording capabilities."

A facile approach to testing a digital camera is to use factory presets and not take the images into post.

red is not for you get a dvx. HOMIE!!

red is not for you get a dvx. HOMIE!!

Ok This is probably gonna get me thrown out of this forum but dammit.

If only one guy who is obviously misinformed manages to irk all of you like this then wow.

Ok. The man got it wrong. He took down the video. Mr. Jannard's extensive list on page one of this thread should be more than enough to have everyone move on.

RED is an awesome camera, yet there are a ton of us around who a) still don't know about the technology b) have messed up ideas that need to be corrected c) don't have 17,000 dollars for just a body. Some of us don't have the thousand to rent it for a day.

Guys like the person who posted that video should be and have been handled by the RED staff, coz all I saw from graeme was a decent correction, a very controlled expression, and from MR. Jannard, a list that proves the point RED tries to make.

In fact, it's almost scary to begin to have something bad to say about RED. I don't worry about the RED staff banning me coz they can take it, and for the most part, the constructive stuff is taken with pleasure, but the users are a whole other story.

I really hope I'm not the only person here that thinks you guys need to chill out, aside from the big boys I've read (RED team minus the moderators, Mr. Mullen ASC, Sanjin, and Kaku).

You work your asses off on projects? so do we. you can't afford a 150,000 camera? we can't afford a 50,000 camera, and I strongly believe R1 is 50,000 minimum 30,000.

I've seen it in action, I've shot with it, and am editing and compositing footage now.

I know I'm gonna get banned here, but I have to say my piece.

RED is an awesome camera. Compared to, and I mean compared to only, the other digital cameras I have access to, not film, digital, and the market here for that matter to up the ante, RED footage wins. No question. The camera is sexy, no question. I don't care about the 3.2K color resolution. I live in lebanon, I never (for money and rent and food) had to finish a project larger than SD still. HD for me. In fact, I don't think I care for resolution much. The only reason for me a 4K sensor is important is the data it retains on capture, and the depth its size creates in reaction with various lenses. The high speed and ramp features are fantastic.

I have slight beef with RED as a system. It's heavy. 3.2K chroma res means 3.2K chroma res. period. It's still fekkin great that's not my beef. To get a computer to run the thing is hell, whether anyone likes it or not. That's it. The rest is awesome, but it's still an expensive deal.

Ok I'm like 100 pounds. I can't handle the camera for too long, I know I'll get five comments about gaining some weight or a camera for a man ain't a camera for me or some BS that I've been hearing about not bein able to pick shit up. The thing is heavy. We don't have 100,000 dollars for cam lenses and ready computer. I'm gonna get posts about how I should play with the big boys when I'm ready. It's us that'll buy the scarlets.

My problem is this forum and the way people defend RED like it's their sister.

The RED staff don't do it, they're naturally immune to it it seems. They make the thing they knew it before all of us could dream it up.

It's still expensive. There are ppl who can afford an R1 but won't afford an aaton penelope when they come out, and are upset when other manufacturers talk trash. There's us who can't afford a red and are stuck with D90's, GH1's, and HVX's. We're waiting for an ever changing scarlet that we won't get our hands on soon enough to feel as exclusive and awesome and cool as R1 owners feel and cram down our throats now.

And D90 users, camcorder users get so much junk here. I'm ashamed to say I shoot D90 on this forum.

Indeed, RED has made filmmakers. You have a RED your images are better. This is as bogus as anything. To the people watching CHE, they're not looking at either RED against film or 4k capture or all that, they're lookin at benicio del toro.

Guys. The man put up a bogus video. Tell the REDteam, and get over it. Cause the ranting makes you sink to that level, and takes away the impression that you are truly confident in your cam. It makes me feel like crap to see.

I had a different idea about something back when and I posted a suggestion and got minced. I haven't posted a reply since. I only read what David mullen writes, the RED team and Jannard threads, and that's it. It was discouraging, the last thing a forum should be.

I'm sure to all of you this is my loss more than it is yours, and that's sad for you.

I'm defensive cause I'm scared of speaking my opinion here, and that's what I thought this was for.

I have been and still am saving for a RED. But I'm also saving for an A-Cam dII and I'm buying a GH1 soon.

End of the day, I shoot film. Nothing can beat that in my book.

My point is people find it really really difficult to say things without having their heads bitten off. There are countless other forums out there that describe REDusers as radical cult-ish bunch of gear lust victims. I corrected that and was just as pissed off at them defending you guys.

It's kinda true. Anyone with a RED these days act like they are better. Just better.

My previous experience with RED didn't piss me off technically, like i said before the cam is awesome. You need money, muscle, and a computer to handle it. My problem was with it's curse.

I had partners and friends working with me for years, they got themselves a RED project in the middle of my shoot, and changed. I refused the camera simply because of what it did to everyone's attitude. We were (and still are) broke and without much permit and access. I'm not about to flip like they did. This film will play soon in Cannes somewhere and in Japan, and it's probably one of the worst things I've seen. They don't care just cause it was shot on RED. The actors were left behind till last day without scripts just cause the camera aspect was being handled. These guys bought some oakleys the next day and started crapping on everyone. I bounced. Went home. Picked up a paper and pencil and drew. Images with nothing but a paper and a pen. just made me feel better.

I don't like it. This thing is turning ppl aggressive, and the vibes i saw in that crew last month are always between the lines around here.

It's ok for people not to like a RED. I'm not one of them but I won't spend a minute arguing cause it's futile. I wouldn't argue even if I had one. It's gear. It's great gear, but its just gear. And it's not for all of us. Isn't it enough it's for you?

I mean Jim very eloquently told us that actions speak louder than words.

That should be enough.

The fact that one ignorant person can piss you off that much is really really really unfortunate.

I really hope my post isn't 'bad attitude', but I'm pretty sure this is my last login. I know 5 ppl who won't like this post, and it really sucks not to be able to log on here again if the case is banning me for this outburst.

Oh well. Here goes.

T

Red is not for you keep shooting film or buy your gh1hmiftrd cam, your post is pointless

There is nothing wrong with pointing out misinformation!

This includes questioning manufacturers of both film and electronic kit.

In the case of those individuals or companies with an obvious financial vested interest in one thing or another and who seek a wide audience risk attracting counter publicity.
