  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Social Network...

It's official. Now we can say that the Golden Globe winning best picture -The Social Network- was shot on the same camera we use. Love you Fincher. Congratulations Red Digital Cinema. Bring on the Oscars.

I love it. Well deserved on all fronts! I'm not surprised Jesse Eisenberg didn't win for best actor considering the competition, but if not for Colin Firth- he would have won.

Congrats to all who took part of creating such a momentous film. I cheered loudly and only wish you could have heard me trying to blow wind behind your worthy sails.

Congrats Aaron Sorkin, for words that can't be lauded with words. Congrats David Fincher, and what a great speech!

And because it won't get as much attention as it deserves, and because I am stupefied in awe before such wonderous work:

Best Original Score in a Motion Picture: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network)

(Thanks Tom for the idea to use this smiley :)

Congrats to David Fincher, Aaron Sorkin, Jeff Cronenweth,..., to all TSN cast and crew, don't forget RED Team, also LIGHTIRON Digital with Michael Cioni and his team.

Steven Soderbergh also takes credits just because there were his several RED1 MX cameras that TSN was shot.

Now Oscar is the next big thing...

Not the movie I was rooting for, but very deserved nonetheless, it was one of the best in 2010. It'll be somehow interesting to see if the Oscars match the Globes this year, it would be quite weird if they didn't, though the Coens could make things more interesting at the Academy Awards (and cinematography-wise, I've said it many times before, I'd love to see Deakins win an Oscar).

Francesco,

sorry to bother you but just forget Coens and Deakins this year at the Oscar show...

Sanjin, no apologies needed, i'm not that fanatic about awards anyway :-)
I'm sure The Social Network has way more chances than any other movie to win big at the Oscars, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't win best picture, best director and best screenplay. However, if I had to bet on the cinematography award, I'd put my money on Deakins.

That would be a good bet..the voters seem to prefer to give the
cinematograpy award often to either the biggest picture in scope
in terms of budget and box office(i.e.Avatar) or to a film
largely shot of exteriors and landscapes...ala True Grit.

Not to mention, it'd be his 9th nomination (with no win so far)

it would be great to see Roger Deakins get the Oscar, it's about time, he is a master in his prime. But still, Cronenweth's work on TSN was incredible and is going to take the award :))) which will be well deserved. For a major film shot on RED, winning the Cinematography catogory (and definitely best film) will be HUGE for all of us and finally remove all doubts about the capability of the camera system IMHO.

Congrats to the TSN and the RED Team on winning 4 Golden Globes :) the Oscars are next.

finally remove all doubts

Seriously, does it need an Oscar for that to happen? The awards are for people using the right tools for the right jobs in a great way. Years ago I worked on a short film where we used one of the lenses used by Storaro on The Last Emperor. We treated it almost religiously, of course, but we didn't win a dozen oscars for that :-)

by the way, if Cronenweth won an Oscar for TSN, it'd be absolutely deserved. If you look at the ASC nominations, there isn't one who doesn't deserve an award! Pfister, Cronenweth, Libatique, Deakins...can't go wrong...

Best Cinematography Academy Awards are not given to cameras, they are given to those who use them. And if you think there's some built in prejudice against digitally captured pictures in that category, you're conveniently forgetting that the award was already given to "Slumdog Millionaire," which was captured on a combination of the SI2K camera and film.

I really don't understand the "chip on the shoulder" mentality that still persists here. Red is a very accepted choice today, for features and television. It is not some poor stepchild that is still trying to prove itself in a world of skeptics. That pretty much ended with the introduction of the MX sensor and the wider use of the camera for television work last year, and has almost completely ended with the adoption of the Epic for some tent pole 3D productions recently. It's really abut time that those here began to understand that Red is no longer some kind of rebel outsider, it is becoming part of the establishment, whether Jim ever intended for that to be the case or not.:cool:
