  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

You're also right about the second point. I just remembered that as of last year my car model no longer is completely customizable but comes in one of two packages just as you mention.

But I still think that's a good future move. Sell now as one package. Sell later as maybe a Canon, Cine and None package. Maybe charge $300 for the "no-mount" option. Then RED gets a little money and it creates a potential market for those who have superfluous lens mounts to recoupe some of their costs.

I thought all Stages after 2 and 3 were no-mount? As for offering one standard package for early Stage 2 or even Stage 3, and then later offering a different package for others in the stage, that could cause some resentment.

If the mount is included for FREE.. then what is the issue? It's for FREE... geez people. If you don't want it then simple don't use it. You are not paying for it.

May be whoever wants a camera without a mount or only with a Canon/Nikon mount should be asked to wait till the mount is ready. Others in line can take the camera with PL mount now. :D Lets see how many are willing to wait for the camera with canon and nikon mount. :-)

I am sure the Canon mount will be ready in a few months time. I trust the capability of the Red team to get the mounts ready. I am not sure if they will get the parts cheap. It will take some time for the price of components to come down.

I believe when RED has already expressed their inability, as a gentleman we have to stop asking Red to give the mounts as a free replacement for the PL mount. I too am counting my coins, however there are certain realities in life and we have to accept those and move ahead.

The point is that if you are not going to use the PL mount, then it's NOT FREE because you need to buy a $2000 (is that the new correct price of the mounts now?) Nikon/Canon mount in addition to the PL that came for "free". If you could swap them on order, then it would save you the $2k from buying the other mount. Get it?

My understanding is that the Canon and Nikon mounts are not ready yet. If my understanding is correct then do you want to wait months for a Canon and Nikon mount to be ready for your Epic?

Stage 2 and 3 folks are getting a nice package for about $15k less than next year's ala carte brain price. So what if the Canon mount is an extra $2k when it is available?

When everything is in production and available, I can see new buyers paying the full price being able to package whatever mount they want with it at purchase. At that point build to order is a very different prospect both for Red and the customer.
 
For a private company, RED sure has a lot of board members.:sarcasm:

25K less plus the cost of the accessories for Stage 3.

No, but maybe for beating a dead horse. Red has already acknowledged the inquiry, why not leave it alone and trust them to do what's best for everyone?
