  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sigma Cinema Lenses

The thing I love about these lenses is that you can actually use them wide open. (of course even better when stopped down)
Here's a recent one shot with my 35 Art wide open with only natural light.

sweet baby jesus, finally !! if the performance of their Art series is any indication of picture quality, theses babies gonna rock.

Told you it'd be worth the wait... and here I feared they wouldn't be ready for IBC prime time spotlight.
HA!

From specs alone it's safe to say that these are built on the ART series. And Matt Duclos confirmed that the optics are the same as the Art Series brothers and sisters.

EDIT: Their slogan "100% NEW, 100% RETAINED, 100% SIGMA" states exactly that. 100% existing glass, 100% new housing.
So anxious to see what the 50-100 will do when zooming... Jarred? Matt? Phil? ;)

This is a big moment for Sigma. Primes should be clear for up to Dragon 8K VistaVision. As should the 24-35mm T2.2. The 18-35mm and 50-150mm T2 zooms will need to be tested. At the moment the safe bet is up to 7K WS, but we'll need to test coverage to fully know.

do those lens supports come off, or are they fixed ? It really bugged me on the 50-100 as it kind of looks the same and was fixed on. Although that breathing was by far more of an issue for the day I had it. Otherwise what great glass ! The primes are great especially wide open. They say an exact optical copy of the art series, so I'm guessing just a quality rehousing which is more than welcome.

Cheers
Ian

20mm T1.5 8K VV Yummy :tongue_smilie:

This is great.

It's not piecemeal stuff, with the primes and the zooms available many of the most needed focal lengths are available. The glass is high performance glass with modern coatings and its compact and lightweight as well. Wonder what the price point will be?

Love the Sigmas, been using the ART 18-35, 50 and 85 a lot on the Epic Dragon for the last couple of years. What I want most right now is a 85mm ART. Guess it's coming soon too !

So sweet! The EF versions will be so versatile!

Great news. Having said that, let's wait to see what the price point is going to be, and how they'll handle breathing on the 50-100, etc. Very exiting. I was just about to pull the trigger on the new ZEISS OTUS bundle with gears, so I'll now just wait and see.

Yeah, that's the one thing that's always left out at announcements :tongue_smilie:
It's all fun & games until we actually know the price. But they should be lower than CN-Es really since the CN-Es are based off the L-primes which cost around $1750 - $2340 each. A CN-E prime cost around $4450. The 35mm Sigma ART cost around $914 so the final price per prime would be around $2000 - 2500, otherwise it's a rather strange price-tag if they are based off lenses almost half the price of the L-primes the CN-Es are based off. But of course we don't know anything, these might even have perfect breathing and then they're worth a lot more.

From FD Times...

Lens support
A removable lens support comes standard with all models.
