  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SHOT ON RED Film Festival Submissions Open

You combine the cameras themselves with Brian, Ted, Bre, etc on the event production side with a host of talented shooters - and you get something pretty darn amazing. This is what makes the RED community so special - it is a whole ecosystem.

We would be nothing without you guys out there shooting. Thank you for making us look so good! I was truly, truly blown away with these shorts....

Saw some great shorts last night. "The Wheel" won the top prize(An Epic) and a lot of our admiration. The director is a whiz kid of sorts according to his collaborators. Great effects. I also liked 3 Hours(shot on location in Jordan), A Talking Dog for 10 Euros and License to Clean etc.

We are building a full recap site of the festival including Vimeo links but in the mean time here are the winners and a few photos from the first night of the Shot on RED Film Festival.

First Prize (SCARLET) - Le Sniper, Yoann Garel
Runner Up (Clutch System) - Voice Over, Martin Rosete

We showed thirty five films over two incredible nights and were impressed by the quality and creativity of all the submissions. Look forward to our feature festival in January and the short festival next year.

Big BIG BIG Thanks to everyone from RED, Ted, Brian, HUGO!!!, Bre, Rob from Barco, Mike from Datasat, and all the filmmakers!!! We had an amazing time hosting the show here at the Downtown Independent, I'm still recovering and still grinning like a fool. So many amazing films!!! Such a wonderful time.

Was a pretty inspiring 2 nights putting on the 1st Shot on RED film festival. For those that were able to come for one or both nights, We all really appreciate the enthusiasm and support of the Art and Magic of Cinema, and the joy of watching 4k on the big screen, created by an extremely talented group of movie makers from all over the world.

It took an incredible commitment from so many people to make this happen, with my colleague Brian as the ringmaster, working tirelessly, communicating with everyone non-stop and working to insure we could show the finalists in 4k. Our tech team helmed by Hugo, along with the team at Downtown Independent were incredible, pulling off the complexities of getting everything up on that movie screen.

It was my great pleasure to spend the evenings with everyone, and to see this dream become a reality. We are confident that we will do this again, based on the success of the first run of the festival, and I am already getting reach-outs from a number of places that would like to see about running this festival in other parts of the USA and internationally

Thanks to everyone that participated. Great congratulations to the winners of the jury prizes and the audience awards, and to all of our finalists in the festival, all that were good enough to Win... the judging was really difficult for us.

What I love -- irrespective of the fact that the majors have appropriated the cameras, RED continues to vehemently support the individual (I don't want to write any potential pejoratives about "little guys," or "underdogs" at this point, but you get where I'm coming from). That is BIG in my book. And it has certified my deference for all things RED.

I know I'm not alone when I write, we want to do nothing shy of represent the platform's capabilities in the most accomplished fashion possible.

Thank you, sir, for all you guys are doing to make that possible. I cannot wait to see what everyone came up with for this festival. And to be a part of the next fest. ;)

Best,

Eryc

Thanks for the recap and details, Brian. Can't wait to see what the filmmakers were able to accomplish -- those Vimeo links you mention cannot come fast enough for those of us who weren't able to attend.

Super big smiles, Ted. Thank you. You guys keep thanking us...but you're the ones opening the door for dream fulfillment, sir. So cool. Glad the event was a success, but was there every any real doubt? I think you have known all along the amount of talent that exists out in the world; it's just nice for you to actually see it firsthand -- and during the very first RED festival no less.

These festivals will only ensure talent is cultivated, and ultimately shipped to the masses. In my estimation, audiences have always been open to variety, but the way things have worked to this point, there has been little room for variegation.

It's a -- If you can shine -- do so, mentality. And you guys are making that possible with each advance. Crazy to think we could have a real-life meritocracy forming here. Hahaha. I'm giddy. Ha.

Best,

Eryc

When is the short festival next year? Is it too late to submit?

Hello!
Just checked and it was alright to post my contribution to the Shot on RED festival here.
Last week I was in L.A to see it in glorious 4K, met some wonderful people and had a great time!

The film is called "Lenny Lump" and is based on a 27 word old Swedish nursery rhyme that we tell our kids.
This is what happens when adding images to the mayhem...
Oh and don't forget to enable 1080p.

(Subtitles are there but you have to go to the YouTube page and enable it in the player window.)

Please share it with your friends if you like it :)

Oh, and there might be some level of violence in it. Just so you know.

hi
i am Sri Lanka. so, can i join this festival? i have RED ONE.
please tell me..

thank you

Can the submitted short film to the festival be online on sites like vimeo / youtube? Will that disqualify the film as a valid entry? Hope someone from RED will answer. Tried the support email, but looking for a quicker answer.

Thanks
