I voted no for the $1k for HDRx™ for the scarlet. However, since then I've seen some indie films with terrible lighting and just saw the barn HDRx™ shot from this thread: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50483

An extra $1k for 18 stops in a $6k package is ridiculous! Indie's are the ones who need it most. Working a few more jobs to pick up a scarlet will be worth it. And the amount of production time and equipment saved on indie films and smaller jobs will also be worth it.

Spend a lot of time reading and not much posting.

I used the RED ONE last year to produce a Spanish feature film called "Cartas a Elena" and the quality of the images were excellent. We worked on very difficult conditions, including rain, dust (a lot), very hot and cold days and the R1 worked perfectly. 42 hours of RAW footage. 100% done in Chihuahua, Mexico.

I'm now interested in buying two Scarlet cameras for feature and TV production.

Questions:
1. It is my understanding that current RED ONE owners have priority. Even if they buy an Epic? Or is one or the other?
2. Is there a list or a deposit for the Scarlet?
3. I know that there is no schedule release date, but I’m hoping for 1QTR 2011?

Thanks.

I don't really see an issue, it would have nearly gone up a $1000 due to inflation by the time it's released. ; )
Still will be fantastic value when it comes

oh boy. It's official. Anyone wanna buy my XHG1? In the box, with everything. haha.
Need to come up with the rest of the $$ for the revised Scarlett.
No, but seriously. Whadda you guys think? I can afford to be without my gear for a few months.
Should I sell now, or sell later?

... As a future Scarlet (S35 & the Fixy) customer I am very happy that RED has decided to keep their focus on the Pro market. It means less compromise in the camera system, and that's why I am patiently waiting for these cameras. ....

Interesting enough is that Red (Ted) back in 2008 already stated that Scarlet will be "true professional tool" and all specification were freaky awesome (3K, hi fps, raw...) and they are still adding more. I think as for technical specification there are no compromises. Only because of pricetag some people start to thinking about it as "prosumer" camera but technically it always was a pro camera.

Amazing news. I'll use the added time to save these 1000$ but I'm just sad because I know today that I won't be able to shoot my ZERO G flight next year with a REDcam. Some friends will bring crappy XDcams & HDV... :crying::crying::crying:

Can we hope a roadmap for the release & pre order soon ?

Don't cry!

For an absolutely once in a lifetime event, why not rent a RED ONE?

Compared to the cost of a Zero G flight I would think the expense would be fairly minor.

Well the original DR target for Scarlet was 11-1/2+ which I am sure they will meet no problem without HDRX. Add 6 stops HDR to that and what do you get?

Yeah!

Hold on there, Cory. HDRx™ on Epic has demonstrated 18 stops. Unless I missed something, Red hasn't published test results for Scarlet yet.

May be for 2/3 or Fixed, but if I didn't miss something, Scarlett S35 and Epic X have the same sensor, resolution, sensibility and DR... Only less power (= less framerate and more compress ratio).

Hey RED guys, what are you leaving for MOSTRO??

Monstro will get a huge bump from all of the work being done right now. Maybe another native stop or two of DR? Plus amped up HDRx? Certainly higher frame rates.

I would say this quote from Jim confirms the 2/3" Scarlet will have 6 extra stops with HDRx™™:

I think that quote is more in the context of the fact that Scarlets will be able to handle the "heavy lifting" required to make HDRx™ work just as well as the Epics (double data rate, double data size, etc.).

Assuming the S35 chip is the same across Scarlet and Epic (and RED ONE M-X), there shouldn't be any DR difference (ceteris paribus).

I think it has always been expected that the 2/3" will exhibit a lower "base" DR than the S35 chips just as S35 chips would have lower DR than the FF35 chips. Whether or not HDRx™ is a function of that base DR or is just a straightforward +6 stops is something we'll just have to wait to find out!
