You have GOT to be kidding? I saw first hand the difference lenses make while trying to match 3 camera in on-line, all with the same setup, yet different lenses. And that was just on XD-HD.

The lense is the camera's portal to the world.... of course it makes a difference.

I don't think he meant they make NO difference, rather the differences between many lenses are difficult for most people to appreciate without a point of reference. It also seems that he is making the Gear v. Skills or Man v. Machine argument; cameras don't make compelling images, people do.

You are in part making his point; when you compare footage side by side you see the difference but in it's own the plusses and minuses are harder to see.

And I love how devilish millioner who even don't imagine how it to be hungry to live for 300$ a month to be without money not for camera even for dress, for food this fat millioner will study people in my country who have not money for their life for everyday for them and their children and this fat cat will study us how it is easy to get 50K for buying RED ONE even 35K for used RED ONE! All my friends are dreaming about cinema and have a really good priojects but they have only 300-500$ a month and now we are thinking about selling house one of us and some fat cat tell me that it is very easy and everybody can do it! I want you to see if you will get 300-500$ a month for your and your family and how you willl buy camera for 35-50K! You can't take credit at bank you can't accumulate this sum even for 10 years! So it is very not easy to buy RED ONE!

That sounds rough. If I were in that position I wouldn't be looking at digital. Find an old 16mm, shoot ONLY what you need and spend what little you have on stock and processing.

For the record, I don't recall seeing Jim say acquiring Scarlet would be easy.

There is serious cost associated all the research and development going into Epic and Scarlet, plus the cost of manufacture. The cameras will sell at the prices needed to recoup those costs and support Red over time so they will still be here for us.
But Red has reduced the cost vs quality and performance compared to what else is out there by at least 5 to 1, so I think bashing Red for being too expensive is a bit silly.
I understand gentile poverty, been there myself at times. However you choose to approach it, making and marketing a successful feature film project is an expensive undertaking. For every film maker that succeeds at this there are thousands that don't. Any particular camera is going to be a minor part of the cost involved and there are lots of viable options, even down to the lower end DSLR's.
