Hi there, as I checked my recent Scarlet order online, I noticed that the package was canceled and instead all single items were listed with GBP pricing. Now, the SCARLET-X AL CANON MOUNT PACKAGE is 9645 GBP - roughly 15.500 USD - instead of the announced pricing of 14.015 USD.
Can somebody please explain this? Thanks! Thomas

Importing products into the EU is typically not free. Does your quote include VAT?

here`s the small print - not exactly sure what is included or not...

"NOTE: Only full retail value of each ordered item is displayed above. Total may not reflect final order total as sales tax and shipping and handling are estimated. Please note that deposit purchases do not include sales tax and shipping and handling charges until full payment is received and the order is ready to ship. Also, any other miscellaneous charges/credits may not be reflected in above order total."

I don't know of package orders being replaced by individual items, perhaps check with RED Europe?

Import, taxes, insurance, shipping to EU. You would probably pay way more if you'd import yourself from the US. Actually, it's quite cheap from RED Europe.

Don't forget to add 20 % of VAT to that price.

Got the same issue. That would be an increase of 10%

Alan posted about the the VAT in another thread.

Hey guys, just FYI, I'm in US and my ordered was also cancelled and it had a itemized items instead. I called and they told me that only IN STOCK items are showing up in my SO page, despite the fact that I had ordered the package. All is well, they assured me.

I thought Digital Film Cameras were duty free (USA to UK)?

Alan posted about the the VAT in another thread.

Any link? About to search now, but it seems UK/Europe price is rising? VAT is OK for me, I can claim that back - just looking at unit/item costs now.

Thanks.

Alan clarified that in the UK of course, you pay VAT and claim it back.

UK Prices include freight, insurance and import duty to the UK (EU)
Digital cameras, sadly, are not zero rated across the board - it depends upon the cameras capabilities;
Classification of the product is a complex issue and RED has experts who have spent considerable time establishing the correct duty tariffs for all of our products.
It's not possible to use a simple calculation to establish the UK price since the import duty varies from product to product.
Once the goods are sold by RED Europe, they are in 'free transit' within the EU.

With regards VAT - we must charge VAT to all UK based customers at the prevailing rate (currently 20%)
For EU customers who are not UK based, if they have a local VAT registration number, the tax is waived.

Alan, could you comment on the delivery to Croatia. Since Croatia is not a part of EU will Scarlet be delivered directly form US?
I see it like this.
If Scarlet will be delivered from UK to Croatia then there should not be any UK (EU) import duties on the invoice - since Scarlet destined for Croatia should be considered as temporary import to UK and as such bare no import costs.
All import duties are to be payed in Croatia by me.

Thanks for the clarification :)

Essentially, it's just under 1K GPB more for the basic $14,015 'kit' (at today's exchange rate $14,015 = 8,703.92 GBP) has an actual price £9,645 (plus VAT). So, that's landed cost with no extra charges to pay (presume other than UK or EU delivery?) & VAT.

VAT is reclaimable, but import duty is often an issue so how does the invoice reflect the extra amounts - is it added to the unit cost? I ask this as I am curious to the breakdown of the invoice ie Body & XXX items - then a value/unit cost plus the import duty, delivery & insurance? Or is the import duty rolled into the unit price/value of the ordered item(s)?

Annoying that the camera doesn't fall under zero duty... but I presume most higher end systems will end up much the same.

I figure you're knee deep in work/orders at the minute, so thanks for taking the time to answer.

What if you're not a company, but a private person? And could you go pick it up at Red and pay UK VAT instead of your own country's VAT?

Haha, yeah - why do you think that Canon has 30min recording limit on DSLRs?
And Sony disabled Analog In -> DV recording in their consumer DV camcorders (because they would get classified as VCRs if they did).

You guys in Europe need to get together politically and vote this nonsense out :)

On the other hand, the European government film boards give out money more easily (and they seemed to have the good taste to give Ruairi money, which I support :) - so I guess one taketh awayeth, the other hand giveth... eth?

The presence of Red Eurpope is fantastic... Anyone who has imported enough kit from the US into Europe will eventual end up with a painfull (and probably costly situation). Red Europe's prices are completley justified in the terms Alan P outlines (Shipping, duties and insurance) BUT even if they where a bit more I would still use them.

Michael

PS Alan Piper is always a real pleasure to deal with.
