SCARLET without DSMC Side Handle

Well, I was on the same thinking terms when ordering epic. And at first.. having only the AC power and the touch screen I tought for a while this is all we need... then when we got the side handle, I could not understand how we could do without it... having a small simple plug and play battery and the buttons that the side handle provides is super nice... then putting it on our milo I just realize that having a red mote would do wounders.... Used to use 35 mm camera that had no touch screens, no small batteries and definitely no remotes showing exposure and changing camera speed, shutter, on off and so on... makes me think how the F would you shoot without a red mote... but I guess it's only when the things are available they are missed... cant wait for the quad battery pack.. even though I think it's od that it needs the "put on modules module" screwd on between camera body and modules...

The RED Brick batteries last MUCH longer than Redvolts, more than twice, more like four times plus.
But obviously the REDVOLTS are significantly smaller in size, and have other advantages like not having to cable them to your rig. Best of all, they're hit swappable... so even though a single brick lasts longer, REDVOLTS can last indefinitely as you don't have to power down to swap them if you're using the battery module.

If you're a previous camera owner with a lot of bricks, it may make sense to buy a battery plate or the like and just use those. But I think any new buyers would be much better off using the volts. Obviously they both have their own strengths and weaknesses, so your mileage may vary.

This may be the dumbest question of all; Redmote makes me thing Remote which makes me thing Portable or separated from the camera body. But in every picture I see it's attached.
The REDMOTE is wireless. It charges while attached to the back of the camera, or via USB.

Would anyone happen to know if the RED 9" LCD (mentioned here) is going to be touch-capable?

I believe, from information put forth a long time ago in the earlier phases of Epic/Scarlet development, it is to be a touchscreen. It is a new product and I don't see RED introducing anything but touch screens LCDs from here. As always, I wouldn't "count that chicken" until RED confirm the specs.

I did not know that. That's convenient. Now, if only we knew when the Pro Battery Modules were going to ship...

Can anyone verify if this is what the Pro Battery Module and Module adaptor are going to look like? The description says both of those items are included in EPIC's Stage 3/3.5 package, and above that is a photo of the package. It appears that the REDVOLTS are actually going to fit inside the Battery Module so that they don't protrude out as they do in this (probably outdated) photo. Also, when will these items be shipping individually?

Yes, that's what the module/adaptor look like. Yes, the batteries fit inside the module - they always have. That second link you posted is a graphical "explosion" of all of the pieces... in other words, the modules all snap together, the batteries fit inside the module, the SSD module doesn't float in midair next to the camera. :P There is also a dual battery module coming that only fits one battery on each side (and thus, is half the depth). You have choices.

Thank you very much for the information!:) I thought the batteries were going to protrude out in that second link was because I couldn't tell if they fit inside the module due to the shadow in that area of the photo.

Do you know when the Dual and Quad REDVOLT Modules and the DSMC Module Adaptor will be available for purchase individually? Also, do you know how much they will cost? The last update I received from RED on pricing was in July:

Dual REDVOLT Module: $1,450
Quad REDVOLT Module: $1,950
DSMC Module Adaptor: $300

I'm not sure if this is still the current pricing structure. Thanks again very much for your help! =)

Until something ships, we never really know. RED often gives us their best guesses as to when things will ship, but they don't have the best track record with meeting deadlines. I would never *plan* something around a projected ship date, but it helps us to know if they're at least thinking something will be a week, a month, or a year out. Do keep in mind that the Quad Battery Module and the Module Adaptor are part of the Epic-X Stage II package, and it's my understanding that those customers will receive them before any ship for Scarlet or to the general public. Neither part is even listed as "coming soon" right now on the store, so your guess is as good as anyone else's. Last we heard, however, they should be arriving in "Mid November," though that was after having missed the previous "Late October" projected date.

Also, do you know how much they will cost?
This thread has all of the pricing information:

Please note that the price for a handful of the items goes up in January 2012.
