I have a set of slim hypercores ready to go and love them
Tried them on the Scarlet-W package at Red Studios and worked great. Plus they're about 3/4 - 1 inch shorter than the red bricks which gets less in the way of the handle.
Well 1. The Raven wasn't the camera many of us were waiting for. Fixed Canon mount doesn't work for Nikon and PL shooters. It was viewed by many as an entry-level "budget" RED that didn't work for us, so we didn't preorder it. Combine that with the fact that Jarred said there was still going to be an announcement regarding the Scarlet. Don't blame the Scarlet-W's lack of availability for a justification for putting in a Raven preorder. We knew there was going to be a Scarlet coming. So many of use waited. That waiting bit us in the ass.
2. Raven pre-orders have no precedence of RED ownership, a la upgrades. These people put down $500 and that's it. I think it's more than fair that if a Raven preorder wanted to switch over to Scarlet-W, they do so in the same queue as those of us who waited for the Scarlet to be announced.
And you're somewhat wrong about "Once the option presented itself they jumped on it just like the ones who just ordered the Scarlet." because due to the way this is handled, someone who preordered the Raven right away could have decided to switch to Scarlet-W in late January and will receive their Scarlet-W before the "only-Scarlet-W" (non-Raven, non-Scarlet Dragon upgrade) preorders placed on day one in December.
Obviously RED can do whatever they want, so it is what it is. It's certainly a nice bump for people who are jumping from Raven... but as someone who has 0 desire for a Raven and didn't preorder one specifically because I was waiting for Scarlet replacement, I think it's acceptable to be a bit salty as I watch only Raven switchers get their orders fulfilled.
Josh,
I really couldn't have said it better. I agree as well that, I believe that they should have made the Raven preorders waited like everyone else and started their option to switch on the same day Scarlet became available to everyone and honor the time stamp from there. I think the Raven is great and wish it was available back when I spent $20,000 on my Scarlet-MX package but it didn't fit into their lineup at that time, so I understand. BUT, like with you, I needed something a little bit more, and so I actually preordered a Weapon Magnesium, but then switched to Scarlet-W because the specs fit into that sweet spot with price. Couldn't justify the extra $20,000 for 6K vs. 5K and they all do Pro Res at 2K and the same frame rates at 4.5K down. I love what RED is doing by offering the upgrade pricing to Dragon owners, and other incentives and their customer service is DOPE compared to other companies (Brent has been AMAZING!) But I do agree with you 100% on how this time stamp issue with Raven orders was handled kind of was a bit unfair to some. Giving Raven preorders the option to upgrade at the same time as Scarlet preorders and honoring the timestamp from there would have been probably the best thing to do. Maybe they will take it into consideration for the next time.
I have the globalmediapro batteries specifically for RED, they've always worked with my scarlet x and dragon thought the v lock module.
Anybody knows if they work on the new scarlet-w? Thanks
I researched this a bit and I don't believe they will fit the I/O module that comes with the S-W or Raven package. Brent @ Red said the battery can be a max width of 100.6mm (with some type of bevel spec.) and on GMPs website, the batteries are listed at 102mm wide. So if the bevel spec on the GMPs are within spec, they might work but it's cutting it close for sure.
Best thing to do is probably buy the other I/O module for Weapon and put your own battery plate on, which should be more accommodating of battery width.

I would be surprised if the GMP batteries don't fit. The pictures make the HDMI port look like it's in the way more than it actually is.
I've been running the hypercores on my package and they work great.
