  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-W has Begun...

Brent/Jarred is there any possible way you can at least let us know what the estimated availability might be on the new RED batteries we keep hearing hints about.
this is really going to help out almost everyone, because if its 6 months from now, we might invest in other battery systems, if its 3 months from now we might not. this is a huge commitment and cost and it would just be nice to know to all what at least the plan is, no details needed, just a time frame.
the time is now, our new cameras are rolling in and we dont know what to do.

I don't know who you are hearing hints from, but it is not me!

Forgive me if I'm not looking in the right places, but I just checked the Scarlet-W specs in the store and user manual, and can't seem to find the power draw. How much power does this thing draw? Thanks in advance.

Anyone get blasted for Scarlet-W brain/package this evening? Seems like RED is only doing this once a week. If that's the case, I'm sure it's necessary for their well oiled machine humming along at optimal pace.

Also, haven't seen anybody mention the new H20 OLPF that just appeared on red.com. I'd love to try it out, but I guess it would mean I'd have to look into getting an underwater housing. Those aren't cheap though.

Around 57-60W I believe.

Interestingly, the Switronix L90S batts do not work when connected directly to the V-lock expander (the camera goes immediately into a shutdown timer as soon as it turns on, showing 0% batt, and then turns off when the timer reaches zero), but they do work fine when connected to the v-lock expander via the power port and the WC RED v-mount plate...

Hey Jon i was also curious about Scarlet-W power draw, according to the Operation guide its 3.3A (50w) with 7inch Lcd and dsmc 2 base expander+ 512gb mini mag. Its on page 32

Thanks. Guess I missed that in my search. Unfortunately it looks like more of a firmware issue than a power draw issue since the same batts that don't work on the v-lock expander do work with the WC v-mount plates.

I guess on the plus side, this could be a firmware issue?

Hey Jon, are you able to get voltage info from your V-Mounts?

This is is good news.

With the Switronix L90S batts I get a voltage readout in camera and with the Anton Bauer Digital Series 150 V-mount I get a battery percentage.

oh wait, so it's two people that their batteries wont work with their v-lock expander? uh oh.
i wonder if anyone have tried with the newer slim hypercore or whatever they are called. or old red bricks.
those will be my two options, unless we hear from jarred on the eta on those batteries!

Not to beat a dead horse, but my experience strongly indicates that the problem is not with the batteries.

The case is identical in size to a Pelican 1510. Really slick. The camera is awesome. Don't want to give wrong impression. I'm sure this battery thing will be worked out.

Agreed. It's important to outline the problems so solutions can be found, and I know they will be. Today is a very happy day. Those butterflies and rainbows, totally happening.

Hi Brent or Jarred,

I know the bodies and S-W packages are in the wild for two weeks, but seems to be in very limited numbers right now as it does not seem to have made it past the first 12 hours of time stamps.

Can we get an update as to when the flood gates might open a bit more and when more units move in volume? I'm checking this thread too much, LOL.

Thanks again for the great work.

EDIT: I'm definitely not trying to be a pain. I've been on a post job the last few weeks for the steady check to pay for the S-W. But post drives me insane, so the the moment my S-W is allocated I'd like to finish up, so hoping for a little clearer picture so I can plan my schedule a bit. Thanks again for all that you guys do at Red.
