  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-W has Begun...

Wanted to thank Jon. There was a minor glitch that I probably wouldn't have figured out until next week or later, so Jon's post helped me a lot. And thanks to Brent and Nick for getting it all sorted out quickly.

Cool, cheers man.

Best car I have owned by a really really long margin and every impatient angry fuck-this-is-taking-to-long bone in my body turned to butterflies and rainbows the moment i received it.

S-W package financing complete and I'm pretty damn excited about some butterflies and rainbows next week. Thanks Jarred.

I've been pretty nice lately , but when someone takes a piss on our team specially right now after they are kicking so much ass working stupid long hours and giving up their holidays your comment almost sends me sideways. It didn't.. because I think you are actually wrong with everything you just said.

Lets look at your examples.

Apple. Putting aside comparing apples to oranges in manufacturing, I don't think anything real they have announced is actually ready to ship the same day. Apple announced the phone 6 in early september and started taking preorders a few weeks later and shipping the end of september which slipped to 4-6 weeks the day after they opened up those pre-orders. Thier last computer, the Macbook 12" Was announced in March and started taking pre-orders with shipping in April and that quickly slipped to 3 months later. Remember the Mac Tower ( trashcan ) and how long that took for them to ship? And the watch and the Ipad pro... Apple as an example actually is likely the worst one you could of picked given the fact that Foxconn literally has an army bigger than some countries with more than a million employees making stuff and you would think they should be able to get this stuff all done in a day.

Lets take your other example... when you buy a car. I'm a car guy so ill give you some personal experience since I have had a go around with those in the last year as well. The new Jaguar F Pace was announced back in december and took deposits the same day. I went to the LA car show and asked the dealer in January if I put down an order when I would take delivery and they best they could tell me was " spring or summer but maybe fall "

Tesla... I recently did buy one of these. I actually put a deposit on the Model X in early 2012 with a ship date of late 2013. That moved to early 2014 to mid 2014 to late 2014 to early 2015 to mid 2015 to to late 2015 and they finally started shipping before this last christmas. I actually ended up buying a Model S instead this christmas , which was very mature in it's manufacturing cycle and even still when I walked into the dealer the wait time was a random whatever month it is now say the next month and add an end in front of it. . I got lucky and the exact one I configured just happened to match one that someone backed out on so I ended up getting it a few weeks early. And I don't care how long it actually took.. because boy o boy was the wait worth it. Best car I have owned by a really really long margin and every impatient angry fuck-this-is-taking-to-long bone in my body turned to butterflies and rainbows the moment i received it.

You didn't mention it, but lets take a look at the camera industry. Even on the consumer low low end easy to make mirrorless cameras being released, they announce 2-3 months ahead and it is rare that they actually ship then and when they do they usually go into immediate backorder. We announced the Scarlet-W a little over 2 months ago, and started shipping right when we said we would.

Look at the other somewhat high end cameras for a second. There is Blackmagic (which I hate knocking because i really do admire what they are trying to do) , they announced their latest camera at NAB for shipping a month later and I still don't think it is shipping.

The Alexa Mini was announced at NAB as well for shipping a month later in May 2015 , and they just started shipping in the US last month.

I could go on and on.

Listen... Building stuff is hard. Anyone that tries to make anything really deserves a medal in my book.

We have gotten very very good but just when we get all the wheels spinning smoothly we challenge ourselves further by building something even harder. ( i.e. 8k )

We have an insanely complicated camera lineup that outperforms anything it's size or price and the logistics of making these in our humble factory here in California is a great achievement (at least to me ) . When you add a rather complicated upgrade program on top of that it adds a whole other level of insanity that guarantees our delivery charts start to look like abstract paintings.

I am just so proud of my team right now that I just can't let anyone shit on them. Kristin, I know waiting is hard. I am probably the most impatient person you will ever meet. I get it. We are doing our best to make soon sooner.

Not to pick on Kristin - just to say that having been at it for almost 30 years - making a product is hard and it is rare that people who haven't been involved in manufacturing have any idea how difficult it is. Red has really picked up their game and Jarred and all of Red should be proud.

As I said earlier, we had a minor glitch with my order - I sent an email at 9am my time (east coast) and Nick replied at 9:26 my time - that's 6:36 am in California. A little after noon they had it all straightened out and Nick called me on his cell phone to update me.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Question to anyone who is financing. I'm financing a portion as well through SoCal, its my first time going this route and was just wondering how long of a process it took from the allocation email, to the pro-rata form being delivered from RED to them, and completion of payment?

I think you should check your options. SoCal gave me an interest rate of 10% which was a bit high. I have business accounts at Well Fargo and got approved for 6.5%. I have a mortgage through US Bank and they said 3.9% for a gear loan, which is freaking low. Then Wells Fargo told me I have really good credit so they gave me a Business Visa with 0% interest for the first year which is all I need to pay off the Red. So obviously I'm going with the business credit card. There are many ways to skin a cat, and with financing NEVER go with the first party. The rates vary a lot.

If you have good credit I would advise applying for a Business Credit Card. Almost every bank I talk to said zero fees and 0% interest for the first 12 months, so if you can pay if off within that period, obviously it's the way to go. Also, you can pay $50 at Well Fargo for reward points. If you put on $15,000 as I'm doing, that's $150 dollars in Amazon gift cards, so in some ways I'm making $100 for borrowing.

Michael if you don't mind me asking was the glitch on your order related to an allocation or something different?

This is slightly off topic, but can someone tell me why I'm not able to create a new thread? I joined in January and have been pretty active on the site with posting replies but I can't create my own thread for some reason (for example, to sell something in the marketplace) any ideas?

Hi Logan, yes there are forum rules/policy that haven't allowed you to make a new thread in the marketplace:

Specifically check out subject 4. You joined in January.

Interesting. My rate is no where near 10% at SoCal. Though, I'll definitely look into business credit cards. I'm doing the 2 yr min, but I can definitely do it in one year if it means I get 0% financing.
Thanks Gene!

i was quoted around 10% from abel cine but i went with my bank which gave be 5.25%. i looked into two banks that gave me very different quotes. on second note. i also got a business cc with 0% to cover my accessories.

Just want to say I think you and the team are doing an amazing job! From where I sit it looks like you guys have a lot of balls in the air and are somehow managing to juggle all of them. Of course we'd all love to have our new cameras show up on our doorstep today, but the fact is the RED team is delivering on their promise and it's not going to kill any of us have a little patience while the new camera production ramps up.

Just found a deal. CitiSimplicty Card has 0% for 21 months. Way more than enough to pay off RED. Thanks for the heads up guys, don't know why I didn't think of this!

Glad that worked out for you Marco. 0% is the way to go! LOL. It's like, why finance anything when there's so many 0% cards floating around?

Now... back to Monday which means checking my email and this thread for any sign of hope.

Meeeee toooo... Haha I'm pretty sure I've been refreshing my email for the past 3 weeks about every 5 minutes. I'm still way to excited haha

If you guys use Gmail (or Yahoo or most other modern mail clients) they receive email through a "push" so a manual refresh isn't required. Just a friendly observance :thumbup1:
