Scarlet Deal of a Lifetime

Hmm. I always expected I would eventually move up to Epic. But now I am a little concerned. Question to the experienced features and documentary shooters. Those shooting with Epic: I imagine you are taking advantage of shooting in 5k and scalling down to 4k for delivery. If I eventually did upgrade to Epic and used a Scarlet as a B-camera (considering Scarlet does only 4k in 24-30fps) would the footage mix well or would the difference in footage quality be obvious? or will I be definitely looking at needing to upgrade to Scarlet Dragons for footage to mix cleanly? All of this assuming no need for high frame rate shooting.

At 24-30fps the scaled down (HD) Epic & Scarlet footage is match each another perfectly. I do this on almost every commercial I shoot. Epic as lead and Scarlet as B-Cam. No worries. Looks great.

This is unreal. We just pulled the trigger on our Scarlet. after years of reading through these forums when I first heard about the RED One, then joining and following daily after the Nov 3rd announcement things finally worked out for me to join the RED family. I can't thank you guys enough, really.

Perfect!

This deal definitely falls under Friends and Family :)

OMG I'm going to need a camera intervention. . .but right after this purchase. . .no, after the Dragon upgrade. . .no, after the Projector. . .and then. . .ahem maybe.

I could'nt resist had to do the right thing and rescue one of these babies so I can bring her into my utterly dysfunctional home.

Thank you RED, Jarred, Jim for being the fantastic ENABLERS that you are! :)

All kidding aside, any other company would have cut a deal with rental houses and would have unloaded them with one large transaction to save time, manpower and overhead but RED takes the road not taken and really takes care of it's customer base. Keep this up and I'm afraid you will have a customer for life!

Damn... that stings a little. Well maybe you will find it in your heart to give us early November 3rd Scarlet buyers a good Dragon price :)

Or perhaps a upgrade path to a cheaper Epic? Thats a heck of a deal for something used for a 3 second shot. Kind of kills the used market too if your looking to sell to upgrade to a an Epic body, which I was going to do...Now we have to beat that and another $1000 for the ownership transfer. Basically a used Scarlet will now be $6100 unless it's sold by RED.

Awesome deal for new buyers, wish mine would've been that cheap. Stoked for all the new people that can buy into RED's now!

The buyer usually pays for the transfer of ownership. Also, as soon as these Battle Tested Scarlets are off the store, the used market of Scarlets will go back to where it was. So no need to worry about it, just wait to sell your scarlet until these are off the store.

which seems like it will be soon actually.

Heh. I bet any other camera company would of taken the healthy rental fee, taken all the cameras back , dusted them off and then put them back in their boxes and sold them as brand new for full price.... nobody would of known; right? I know our accountants would of preferred that :)

Speaking of which.. we are also going to put every one of these Scarlets through full QA again over the next couple days, just to make sure nothing went bad in transport.

I had been looking at used for a second body - but the cost difference between what was being offered used vs. what RED was selling new was just too small. I was actually leaning towards new - because an extra 1k or so for new gave me peace of mind… Took me 10 seconds to buy this deal this morning.

As mentioned, wont affect the used market that much down the road.. this is a very temporary act of good fortune... prices will go right back to normal on our side after these are all gone. Maybe I will even delete this thread so it never happened :)

heh heh heh.

I was just thinking how you guys could have easily done that. But kudos for sharing the love. Now... make sure the upgrade path to Dragon is just as special :)

Respectfully, I disagree. Jarred opened this to the forum only, and once they are gone, it will be business and prices as usual. Just don't sell your Scarlet this month ;)

You guys are good people and will always have my support.

haha, please don't take that the wrong way. I'm more excited more people will get to experience RED's. I just didn't know how limited it was. Can't blame anyone for being worried though, especially if they want to make the jump to an Epic :)

Haha ok ok....I can wait a LITTLE longer ....

wow.. you guys must have alot of friends. I thought it was going to take a month or two to sell all these but it looks like it might not even make it to the end of the week.
Thank you very much for this deal Jarred, I was actually paranoid that I wasn't going to get my order placed in time. I really like my battle tested lens and this 2nd battle tested scarlet will really help me out(I really like the battle tested program). I do think "battle tested" Scarlet is a bit misnamed, perhaps "skirmish tested" ;)
