  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

I ordered the titanium mount right on day one. I knew it would be the one to have. Its a small price difference and for someone that shoots motorsports like me, its absolutely essential to use tele lenses, which are heavy as hell. The 600 I'll be using this weekend with a 1D Mark IV. Tripod will have to go to the lens.

just a curiosity. Do the possible FPS change with aspect ratio?

No reason to be concerned. I think the AL mount will handle the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS just fine. Now if you were dangling a 600mm f/4L IS off the front of it I would strongly recommend rods and an additional lens support.

It's fairly common practice to use some sort of support bracket for focal lengths 200mm and beyond. Not just to support lens weight, but to minimize movement of the lens during focus.

Thanks Phil, good to know!

I'm a little concerned by that response. Do you have any specifications as to max load the AL can take? I plan on using the 70-200, and would like to know if the TI is required to bear the weight.

The mount can hold the weight of the lens no problem but it depends if you are using the lens mount to support the camera, which you shouldn't do but some people do anyways. Remember, a fully loaded scarlet is going to weigh a lot more than a plastic dslr. The titanium mount is going to move less than the aluminum mount under extreme stress and temperatures... That's why we offer two mounts. The vast majority of people will never notice a difference... But a handful will. And the longer the lens, the more solid you are going to want things.

That's why we invented the double lock outer ring, so not only do you have the EF bayonet securing the lens, but an additional locking ring to vastly eliminate any rotational slop left over.

It has to be said that the double lock on the Canon mounts is a stroke of brilliance. After literally decades of that movement issue it's nice to feel "strapped in" and secure. High five to whoever thought of that.

this is really excellent, i thought it looked like there was something extra to the mount

We like it :) so much so we did the same for the Nikon.

Jarred ... so when do you think we might be able to see the Nikon mount in Red Store

Okay in light of this reply, let me add, that for well over twenty years I have been doing exactly that, use the long Telephoto Zooms or Supertelephoto Primes, to support the Body,
even the 1D/1Ds series bodies, but with EPIC, I sure would not do that, SO DON'T!!

Secondly to follow up on Jarred's reply, the way the RED CANON Mount has been built is simply GENIUS, with his double LOCK system even the largest lenses under HUGE stress and EXTREME situations, MOVE ZERO,
when adjusting ZOOM and or FOCUS, for this after testing Jarred's GENEROUS Loaner of one of his RED CANON Mounts, I decided to order our 2 SCARLET X with Ti Canon Mount,
to have the added security of our gear and of our shots!!

Yes the Al will save you some but the piece of mind of the Ti mounts is just PRICELESS to me!!

CANON Ti MOUNT PACKAGE

CANON Ti MOUNT PACKAGE

I'm very interested in the CANON Ti MOUNT PACKAGE for $15,515.00. Is that a promotional price that will change on 1/1/2012? Or is the 1/1 price change just for the SCARLET-X W/ AL CANON MOUNT / SIDE SSD package?

Currently the store says the package is coming soon...any idea which month?
thanks

I'm so glad you guys choose to make it anyway. I would be one of those people who never get a chance to actually see how the mount will perform with a very long lens, because I wouldn't use such a Canon lens. It's a nice way to cut $1.500 of your budget as a beginner. Eventually I will get the Ti PL mount, but until then this is perfect.

Well - I am totally stealing the list from the good people here at REDuser. Everything is subject to change, of course (haha) but I really can't afford PL lenses right now, as much as I'd like to do RPPs or Zeiss - and, I am curious about how much benefit will be extracted out of the auto lenses with the Canon mount. I currently have some rather mediocre Canon glass but it will get me started and let me experiment with the Canon mount.

Then, I am thinking I'd like to accumulate some Canon L-series 2.8 zooms - 16-35, 24-70, and 70.-200. The Tokina 11-16 also looks nice. Of course, I'd also want to build a set of primes and, again depending, Canon L would be the obvious choice - 28, 50, 85. I am thinking quite a bit about how fast I want them to be because, in my experience shooting motion on the RED ONE, f/1.8 or faster is REALLY difficult to deal with in terms of focus so, in the world I frequent, they almost become unusable (only for motion work, of course).

And, like I said that could change. I could imagine getting a PL mount later and some cine glass (RED or CP.2s) for narrative stuff. It's fun to think about, eh? :thumbup1:

You dont get a fast lens in order to shoot open, you get s fast lens so at a few sops down the quality and sharpness pay off and shine. Makes pulling easier but nevertheless, if you wanna do motion the Zeiss CP2's are probably a better bet than the Canon L series with the ring the goes around forever.
