SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

Wouldn't you rather see a film with a good story and a small budget shoot on a Scarlet over a DSLR?

I want to see indie shooters using Scarlet and producing high quality results that will help sell and release their motion pictures in theaters.
Scarlet isn't just a tool, but it's also an investment in your vision having real lasting and selling power.

Like every camera though; it takes time, patience, and experience to produce compelling imagery. Scarlet has just given them a way to do it on a professional playing field.

No 8X Fixed. We had terminal issues with the lens. If you are sad, just think about us. All those development dollars down the drain.

Jim

Are you guys considering a fixed lens Red camera in the future?

You see, i would love to use a Red camera in television work, that´s why i was looking forward to the fixed. With a smaller sensor, internal ND, the zoom and a bit more simpel setup of the camera it would have been perfect. It is faster to work that way when you have to run and gun...
I really hope you guys will consider to make a good camera aimed at the television camera guys. Then the Scarlet X would be a nice camera to do interviews and make nice portraits. I would have bought both.

There is a big market for this to, i`m sure you know. And i hope you one day will reintroduce a fixed lens Red camera aimed at those who need to run and gun.

Congrats on the announcement :=)

the lack of any real 2k slowmo is a little disappointing. id like to see some lower datarate redcode recording options also, like sub-rc28 , 25:1 compression (its a documentary thing..), but i think Red are scared to let redcode get more stretched. upgradeable sensor is good!

A bit off topic... Does anyone have the latest Redcode compression rates/disk space usage comparison chart ?
I wanted to do a search for it (as it is somewhere in the forum) but since last night attack the search form does not appear in my browser (latest Firefox Mac version)...

Forget it ! Just found it right now in the Scarlet forum !

3rd of Nov - on that day the professional cinema industry has been democratised and changed FOREVER!!!This is HISTORICAL MOMENT! THANK YOU, RED!

Using that chart as reference, 39 minutes of recording time is just under 55MB/s, so if we had a compression ratio between 8:1 and 9:1, we would be able to shoot 24fps at 5K FF.

This makes me wonder if there is some limit to maximum compression.

When did they cancel the Scarlet program?

When did they cancel the Scarlet program?

I remember the rumors back around NAB. They apparently completely scrapped the Scarlet program. The 8x zoom and compact primes are gone with the 2/3" sensor. It's a shame, really. That would have been a pretty interesting system.

This camera seems like an oddity to me. The data rates seem to severely limit it. And weren't we expecting an "Epic-S" soon for just a couple of thousand more than this that use the same sensor and offer higher data rates? Has that program been cancelled, as well?

I think it's unbelievable that some people want their camera to cook them breakfast while still entertaining guests and making love to your images at the same time... You wanted upgrades, you got it, you wanted modality, you got it, you wanted PL - CANON & NIKON you got it ... People are upset they are getting a 4K camera for 10K? It's closest competitor is more expensive, and is still stuck trying to make sure you will lose 90% of your investment in a larger format camera once new tech comes out... Spoiled...
