This is going to be one very long month.
I am hoping that there are some fairly straight forward stereo synch options (mainly for side by side shooting); we have different apps so side by side works great for us (not trying to invite debate on that).
Would be nice to get a sense of what would be required to synch several pairs of cameras in a cost effective reliable way?
LOL whoever is on the shit list should be banned from the forum, but RED should still take their money and ship them a camera so those ppl can be called hypocrites for doubting and saying nothing but negative things, and RED will become all that much more profitable$ if ppl are questioning RED still, then wait and see you will be wrong because We believe in RED and we are rounding home base and they will make a home run with the scarlet IMO..
Eric again, lately seems that almost everytime I reply to a reasonable post your name comes up quoted on it (I often don't look at it, and the posters name colon is off screen often on this device). Anyway, I already knew what I was going to write.
Sometime ago somebody I knew came up with a idea to hook cameras up in a ring to provide a 3d surround view. I didn't tell him that I came up with a more advanced form of the idea in the 80's (think now out, but forget, so I won't mention). Unfortunately he took off down south to Slicon Graphics. Brilliant in some ways. Actually my head is starting to formulate a animated interactive use as I type.
However, putting history aside, what is scarlet round?
Scarlet round would be a part or complete ring of scarlet heads. Scarlet Sphere, you can guess, lowered over the user who can stand on the remaining cameras under the standing plate, or raised through the floor, looks stunning for pr, or simply a door of cameras on the side (lowering through the top I'm not getting into) allowing action stunts to be recorded from all directions and inserted in scenes post production as a 3d model.
For motion capture this can be used to make a true 3d model of actor and true modeling of the actors flesh, muscle, organs, hair and clothing distortions. A stunt double of actor that just conforms to the actors type canbe used and transformed through the processing on the model to the actor. Use of actors model would further increase this accuracy, and actors characteristics and that of the actors motion, canbe included and transcribed onto the stunt double model aswell to make it seem more characteristic of the actor.
The stuff Cameron did on Avatar was exactly what I wanted to do in the 80's or early 90's, probably using the surround in the 90's, for a short film that would have been called Night Flight to Venus, with the Boney M song of the same name hopefully. Imagine my utter disappointment when I did training on a quarter million dollar system in the original Maya, when even the cloth module was something just breaking, so far behind and no way to increase the economies of film production, just incompetence.
The film industry, as I stated in years past, should have put together public domain 3d image libraries and started a open source project 3d software to develop and do all these things (of course many cheap software packages do a lot these days). To drastically cut the cost from well over a quarter a million dollars then, to a well healed PC, and hardware. This open source could have been extended to camera hardware aswell.
So, back on topic, what about a Scarlet Round camera Jim and team?
Who can say... All things subject to change and all that. I'm positive they will have an S35 camera that will be lower cost (at the expense of features and capability) compared to the EPIC-X/M. Not sure if it matters what they call it. Who knows, there may end up being more than one of those, or maybe not. I'm not sure if more than one is warranted or needed.
Anyway, I've learned from all my time here that it's best to not read too far into little details like that or try to analyze Jim's posts. Most of the time when people (including myself) try to do just that, the results are usually error. He likes to tease and get people excited, but he's rarely cryptic. There's a difference between being cryptic and simply withholding details until he's ready.
holy crap 200+ posts. all I want is a camera I can launch into outer space (meaning: you guys better knock ~700 grams off the final weigh-in, hopefully)
Modern santa clause is not really Christian, but an abbreviation that nobody should take as a genuine belief of Christians and other sane people. You could call ithe modern Santa a bit of non Christian abbreviation, though originally there was a person that the story was based on.
who has the self restraint to put a Scarlet in box and place it under a tree???
Last time I checked though I thought Jesus Chr*st was a little bit Christian, but maybe I’m a bit out of touch, however I definitely feel that the flying spaghetti monster’s noodly appendage is no longer upon me.
“ARRRRRR” (sad pirate refrain).
The original St. Nicolas was pretty groovy when he brought back to life three boys that were pickled in a jar circa 300 AD. Of course he’s been struck of the saint’s list for some reason.
Now that would be a good movie, St Nicolas, the true story..., shot by Scorsese on Scarlet..all the original gory details, would make the Shining seem like a pick nick by comparison.
Well lots of Scarlet’s under the tree this year (I wonder)…geeze who has the self restraint to put a Scarlet in box and place it under a tree???
(pure madness).
If I was a gambling man I would predict the surprise will be a 4K Scarlet Fixed. I read a report that 2/3 sensors are not in mainstream production anymore and is not aligned with Red's bread and butter. The current chassis would support a larger sensor, Canon would shit themselves, and Red would have a little more economy of scale in production. That would explain Jim's responses on the Epic S. $50 bucks - any takers?
