  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet (and shipping) announcement Nov. 3rd...

Whenever it gets here I will be adding one to my inventory. I would prefer a 2/3 sensor since we have the s35 covered already.

Tom I think you just put your name on the shit list...just a guess

I don't think so.
I am just saying that stuff what 80% of all members here are already thinking.

Once RED announced Scarlet some years ago, I was really overjoyed.
But now I am tired of "Scarlet hunting", while other competitors already released
a bunch of new cameras.

I don't know how you earn your money, but I get payed for facts, physical and available
film... not for announcments. That's that film biz works.

Don't be hard to me,
it is just the fact that I cannot read again some "RED announcements" and hoping,
that they are valid this time.

Cruising the Red Store I just noticed that all of Red's Pl mount lenses are check marked for Scarlet too. Interesting.

LOL whoever is on the shit list should be banned from the forum, but RED should still take their money and ship them a camera so those ppl can be called hypocrites for doubting and saying nothing but negative things, and RED will become all that much more profitable$ if ppl are questioning RED still, then wait and see you will be wrong because We believe in RED and we are rounding home base and they will make a home run with the scarlet IMO..

Am I missing something here….?

I though the basic concept was “no dicking” around…right?

So is it not the case that as soon as the announcement breaks, you read the spec and if it fits you push the big red button to order (at very least) Scarlet Units..right?

I have this image of Scarlets all laid out in warehouse as far as the eye can see?

This has to be absolutely unprecedented in terms of “buying” modality. I.e. the buyer pulls the trigger to buy from only having learnt what the spec of the item was a few seconds before and will happily transfer in some cases several or many tens of thousands of dollars.

If the fit is right we have a need of a few, but I just wondered given that demand is going to be pretty extreme I wonder about those that wish to order in large numbers? Is there a maximum order?

Also hoping that the spec is pretty comprehensive.

I am hoping that there are some fairly straight forward stereo synch options (mainly for side by side shooting); we have different apps so side by side works great for us (not trying to invite debate on that).

Would be nice to get a sense of what would be required to synch several pairs of cameras in a cost effective reliable way?

Whatever happens, I think Cannon are going to be acting like the jealous X-girlfriend come Nov 3rd; i.e. VERY jealous of the commitment that RED customers have. That doesn’t even take into account the capability and price point of what they are actually providing.

It’s going to be a wild ride.

Cheers,

Eric

P.s. still have this vibe about the 645…?

Hmm not anymore...

Really? hmmmmm...

(Dragon on Steroids or no Steroids required?...) Just thinking about the vertical K on such a sensor...??? (on a 6 ..4..5(ish) thingy...)?

So I'm guessing since the scarlet is a slightly different chassis then the epic, they will come either automatically with the SSD built in or another SSD module just for the scarlet?

Weren't they always that...? Maybe not. Hmmm...

In the spirit of Ron Burgundy: Interesting?

Nothing interesting there. Mounts are interchangeable between the DSMC (EPIC / SCARLET) brains. So you can put PL on your 2/3" Scarlet, no problem. Which makes sense anyway, given the amount of PL glass out there in the world designed to cover 16mm...

Anyway, the more I read these latest Scarlet threads, the more I realize that many people never understood what Scarlet was meant to be. Of course, we now have to see the Nov. 3rd announcement to know what Scarlet actually is...

But the Scarlet as we know it doesn't have a removable lens mount, does it?

Yes. There have been two models of Scarlet in development for some time. 2/3" sensors, one with a fixed-lens, Scarlet-Fixed, (8X zoom, T2.4), the other Scarlet-Cinema with the DSMC interchangeable mount system. One of the available mounts being the RED mini-PL, which will support the RED mini-Primes. You can also use other DSMC mounts on the Scarlet-Cinema brain, including standard PL, Nikon F, Canon, etc..

There was a "Scarlet-S35" and a "Scarlet-FF35" as well. However, the Scarlet-S35 was renamed to EPIC-S. It's supposed to ship once EPIC-X backorders are fulfilled and heavy demand subsides, so I would guesstimate sometime early next year. Scarlet-FF35 was to us the FF35-sized "Monstro" sensor. Of course, it's been a couple years since RED pulled those specs and info from their site or online. Who knows what's changed.

Of course, this is all subject to change on Nov. 3rd. But this is what has been on the table for some time.

I think its just cos everything is currently up in the air and open to change, since they "departed the roadmap a while ago" so anything that seems certain, is interesting.. again!

I didn't realize that the Scarlet with interchangeable lenses would use the same lens mounts. I guess I thought they would be smaller or something, but that is great. Titanium mount on a Scarlet! Can't wait til Nov 3!

Yes Jeff, I knew that. I always thought you could slam 'em on a interchangeable. But it sounded like the lenses suddently JUST NOW appeared as being compatible with the Scarlet - thus indicating that there might be coming a non-fixed Scarlet ;) That's what I meant by "interesting?" :)

Well, there really has been a contradiction (change?) here.... Jarred said this only a few days ago.

Scarlet is part of the DSMC program.. almost everything that works with EPIC will work with Scarlet. Batteries, media, mounts, etc. Even the base plates and QR platforms have been made to accept both cameras.

Jared said this just a few months ago:

Hey Jarred, while we are at it- are Scarlet and Epic mount adapters the same?

nope they are different... the 2/3" program has the ability to be much smaller and to have a very short back focal depth, which is a huge advantage, so its different in all X, Y and Z dimensions.
